About this Role

If you are someone who is passionate about their job, enjoys working with young people and is determined to make a real difference to the children, then this could be the role for you.

Our dedicated Science Technicians play a vital role in supporting the work of the faculty and we now have an excellent opportunity available to join the team.  We are seeking to employ staff who have a thirst to develop young people and build teams committed to academic and pastoral success. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in influencing positive learning outcomes for our students.

The role requires a Science Technician to join the team for 37 hours per week, term-time  (39 working weeks per year).

The post involves the preparation of practical scientific activities, maintenance of scientific apparatus and contributing to the upkeep and organisation of resources.  As well as having an interest in science, the successful candidate will be a well-organised team player with the ability to prioritise their workload and a can-do approach.  Previous experience in a laboratory and/or educational context is desirable.

The ability to remain calm and courteous, friendly yet professional under the pressures of working in a very demanding and constantly changing environment is imperative. This post will require considerable flexibility in working hours and styles and a willingness to undertake training to meet the varying demands of the role.

Being a smaller school, we know our students inside-out and always put them at the heart of our decisions. We work exceptionally hard to provide a student-centred, personalised, and innovative learning environment preparing our students with the character and leadership skills to lead happy, healthy, and successful futures.  We are firmly dedicated to our values of social action, ambition, pride, and resilience which emanate through our academy on a daily basis.

Our new colleague will also benefit from being part of Ormiston Academies Trust, a MAT of 43 primary and secondary academies.  The Trust’s vision is for all young people to have access to the highest academic, social and practical skills required to achieve their full potential.  OAT support all staff so that they can enhance and develop their professional skills whatever their role within the trust.

As well as a rewarding career and nationally agreed terms and conditions, joining an OAT academy will give you access to a variety of benefits, support programmes and initiatives including:

  • Excellent opportunities for continuous professional development and support to progress your career
  • Pension scheme (Teachers’ Pension Scheme or Local Government Pension Scheme) with generous employer contribution
  • Pro rata salary allowing for 26 days annual leave plus bank holidays (for non-term time only staff), rising to 29 days after 5 years’ service
  • Lifestyle benefits offering significant savings on wide range of shopping, leisure and travel outlets
  • OAT Car Benefit and cycle to work salary sacrifice schemes
  • Free parking

If you want to work with a great team of staff and students, and feel that you have the right skills, please apply before the closing date of 12th July.

Sandymoor Ormiston Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. Ormiston Academies Trust embraces diversity and promotes equality of opportunity.  Flexible working opportunities will be considered.

All successful appointments will be subject to suitability checks in accordance with KCSIE, including identity, Right to Work, qualifications, online searches, prohibition check, two references and enhanced DBS check including Children’s Barred List.
