About this Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Nursery Teacher to join the team at our nursery school, working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, term-time only. Alongside the Nursery Manager, the postholder will lead the nursery (3-4 year olds) team in providing excellent teaching and care that meets the needs of all the children, and which is based on child-led principles.

We are a maintained nursery school and form part of a federation of four local authority maintained nursery schools across Northamptonshire, with a supportive and proactive governing body. Our mission is to provide the highest quality of Early Education and care for all our children, in whom we foster a love of learning to help each child become the best they can be.

Main duties

Teaching and learning:

  • To lead other support staff in the delivery of a child-centred, play-based EYFS curriculum, with support from the Headteacher, Nursery Manager, and SENDCo, delivering weekly planning meetings and disseminating learning objectives
  • To model and support staff to deliver effective teaching and learning through high quality interactions, monitoring and evaluating teaching and learning as part of the senior leadership team
  • Assessing new starters and outlining plans to meet their needs and interests, ensuring the next steps in their learning are identified and understood
  • To monitor, evaluate, record, and report on children's progress to a range of audiences, including parents/carers
  • To lead the delivery of an effective play-based, child-led curriculum, based upon child development
  • Demonstrating highly inclusive practice, such as by adapting teaching approaches to support the individual needs and targets for children with SEND
  • Working within the code of practice relating to SEND, liaising with the SENDCo and other appropriate professionals as necessary
  • Creating and maintaining stimulating and attractive learning environments, both indoors and outside, which encourage independence and a motivation to learn in children
  • To support the Nursery Manager with the deployment of staff and organisation of daily routines to ensure that staff are effectively put to work, and the environment is safe and learning effective
  • To attend and lead CPD opportunities
  • To undertake home visits, usually prior to children starting at the nursery
  • To be an active member of the Senior Management Team, working in collaboration with the Executive Headteacher, Nursery Manager, SENDCo, FSW, and School Business Manager
  • Deputising for the Deputy Headteacher in their absence
  • To be responsible for line management and appraisal of some support staff
  • To be responsible for the safeguarding and wellbeing of children, following the established policies relating to safeguarding, health and safety, behaviour management, confidentiality and data protection, and reporting all concerns to the appropriate persons
  • To carry out other duties and responsibilities which may be reasonably requested by the Headteacher

Community:

  • To work in partnership with colleagues, parents/carers and governors, members of the community, local pre-schools and schools, and other appropriate agencies, promoting the school within the locality and beyond
  • To contribute to the life of the school through effective participation
  • To actively participate in meetings at the school relating to its curriculum or the administration/organisation
