About this Role

Although our pupils are aged between 11-16 years, they have often experienced significant gaps in their learning from moving through several primary schools or poor attendance. Therefore, their learning levels may be significantly below age-related expectations which, together with self-esteem or SEMH needs, require their teaching to be dynamic, flexible and exciting in order to engage.

Our class sizes are set at a maximum of 9 pupils and teachers are supported by at least one Learning Support Assistant within the classroom. Often, class sizes are smaller than this due to the broad range of 1:1 / paired learning and enrichment interventions in place throughout the day.
We are rated Outstanding by Ofsted and have been oversubscribed for several years.

Are you passionate about supporting students and families, fostering connections, and ensuring every child thrives? We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Student and Family Support Officer to join our team and play a pivotal role in building a supportive school community.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), supporting students and families through safeguarding processes.
  • Lead attendance initiatives, address unauthorised absences, and work with families and external agencies.
  • Provide tailored support for families, including applications for Free School Meals, transport, and benefits.
  • Facilitate smooth transitions for students joining or leaving the school.
  • Build strong relationships with families and foster engagement through forums, events, and communications.
  • Support student well-being and personal development through mentoring and conflict resolution.

What We’re Looking For:
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a proactive mindset.

The Gateway School is committed to safer recruitment and the successful applicant will subject to the relevant pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS.
