About this Role

Your main place of work will be Boasley Cross Primary but you may be required to work across all the schools within The Dartmoor Multi-Academy Trust at any time as directed by the Executive Team.  

This job description is not a comprehensive definition of the post. Discussions will take place on a regular basis to clarify individual responsibilities within the general framework and character of the post as identified below.     

 Purpose of Job  

To work under the direct instruction of teaching/senior staff, usually in the classroom with the teacher, to support access to learning for pupils and provide general support to the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroomWork might occasionally, but not regularly, take place outside the main teaching area.  

To work under the guidance of the Foundation Stage Supervisor and teaching/senior staff, within an agreed system of supervision.  

Major Responsibilities  

 The role holder will be adaptable and resilient, ready to undertake a diverse range of tasks including the following: 

 Implement agreed range of activities with individuals/groups of children, either within or outside of the nursery/foundation stage unit 

 Assist the Foundation Stage Supervisor /Teacher in the whole observation, assessment, and planning cycle  

 Management/preparation of resources to support an enabling learning environment, both indoors and outdoors  

Supervise all children during the short-term absence of teachers (i.e. cover supervision)  

 Generally, assist children in undertaking both adult directed and child-initiated activities, interacting with them to support their learning and development  

 Ensure school safeguarding policies and procedures are followed appropriately  

 Regularly contributing towards written observations of a child’s progress, whilst always maintaining confidentiality  

 Collating evidence to support a child’s progress towards learning outcomes 

 Support the EYFS lead by preparing the classroom as directed for lessons and clearing afterwards.  

 Providing clerical/administrative support e.g., photocopying, typing, filing, collecting money etc.  

 Support the curriculum by preparing and maintaining equipment/resources as directed by the teacher and assisting pupils in their use.  

Support the school by being aware of and complying with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, and reporting all concerns to an appropriate person 

 Being aware of and supporting difference and ensuring all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.  

 Contributing to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school.  

 Attending and participating in relevant meetings as required 

 Accompanying teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as required and take responsibility for a group under the supervision of a teacher.  

 Support at lunch times and break times, maintaining a flexible working pattern.

  • Willingness to participate in other development and training opportunities as needed  

  • Commitment to lifelong learning with emphasis on literacy and numeracy skills.  

  • A full and relevant level 2 qualification   

  • Safeguarding awareness  

  • or the ability to work towards  

  • Numeracy/literacy  

  • skills (at least equivalent to level 2 of the National Qualifications  

  • Framework)   

  • Paediatric First Aid or Emergency Paediatric First Aid   

  • Manual Handling  

 

Experience 

  • Experience of working with children of relevant age in an early learning environment. 

  • Experience of working in a school environment. 

  • Experience of working as part of a team. 

Skills, Knowledge and Capability 

  • Ability to relate well to children and adults including other professionals, carers, and parents.  

  • Ability to demonstrate and promote good practice in line with the ethos of the school indoors and outdoors. 

  • Firm commitment to protecting and safeguarding children at all times.    

  • Have sufficient understanding and use of English to ensure the wellbeing of children in their care 

  • Ability to use other technology to support learning such as video and photocopier. 

  • Consistent approach with children and parents. 

  • Ability to promote and market the service to the wider community. 

  • Ability to effectively use ICT to support learning

The successful candidate will be required to come to DMAT HQ to complete mandatory training.

Training Details:

Location: Central Head Office (Wardhayes) 8 Simmons Way, Okehampton, EX20 1PY

Duration: Monday – Friday

Purpose: To provide comprehensive training on company policies, procedures, and systems necessary for successful integration into the role.

Training Schedule: Daily sessions from 9am to 4pm, with breaks provided.
