Role: Social, Emotional and Mental Health Key Worker (SEMH)

Grade:

Hours: 26 hours per week (Over 4 days)

Contract: 12 Month Fixed Term Initially

Salary: £14,901 - £16,211 (Actual Salary), (FTE: £24702 - £26,873)

(additional 5.3 hours a week available at LSA rate - grade 4 -  if candidate wants more hours)

The School

Matthew Arnold is a thriving community school on the outskirts of Oxford and we are looking to appoint a Social, Emotional and Mental Health Key Worker (SEMH) Key Worker.  This is Fixed -Term position for 12 months initially, which may be extended based on specific funding.

Matthew Arnold is an oversubscribed inclusive 11-18 school of over 1,300 pupils that serves a mix of urban and rural communities across the west side of Oxford. The school prides itself on being a high achieving school with increasing rates of progress for our disadvantaged students. This has been achieved by focusing on improving outcomes for every student and continuing staff development.

The school is part of the Acer Trust. All schools in the Trust play an important part in the success of the Trust and work together collaboratively so that each school in the Trust is a great place to learn and to work. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide 1-2-1 Support to a specific student as directed by the SENCO to support with attendance and engagement throughout the entire learning and development lifecycle

  • Identify specifics needs of the learner to best support them

  • Supporting the student to access the curriculum in lesson time, adapting lesson plans and resources and be responsible for preparing and delivering 1:1 teaching where appropriate with the direction of a teacher

  • Work closely with both SENCO and Deputy SENCO to ensure student continuously develops and thrives within the school

  • Help with the planning and delivery of the personal development curriculum, helping to ensure that the student has access to appropriate knowledge and skills

  • Working closely with teachers to ensure learning outcomes are achieved as well as nurturing a supportive, caring environment where respect, self-esteem and inclusiveness of the whole school ethos is promoted

  • Motivate student by being encouraging, instilling belief so that the best possible outcomes are achieved as well as providing emotional support when required

  • Communicate and consult with teachers, parents about; progress, development and future objectives

  • Liaise closely with agencies and professionals to best support the student

  • Attend critical meetings with Line Manager, Deputy SENCO on a fortnightly basis as well as assisting with administrative tasks, including; assisting with test/exam access arrangements, writing reports and reviews, supporting teachers to design and produce learning activities

  • Continuously involved in monitoring and recording the pupil’s progress, maintaining records and providing relevant feedback to teachers

Requirements

  •  Experience of working with youths either paid or on a voluntary basis

  • Working within an educational setting

  •  Knowledge of Special Educational Needs (SEN)

  • Ability to motivate and assist young people of all ages
