About this Role

This is an exciting opportunity at Ormiston Chadwick Academy and requires you to be enthusiastic and passionate with the drive to help our students to achieve their very best.

We are looking for a Science Technician to join our enthusiastic and committed Science team.  You will work with the Head of Science to co-ordinate the use of practical resources and facilities and aid in the practical needs of the science curriculum.

Ormiston Chadwick Academy opened in Widnes in September 2014 serving the community of West Widnes.   Our Academy is large enough to offer an outstanding curriculum but small enough to have a strong community ethos in which all students are known and nurtured to achieve their potential.

Why work for Ormiston Academies Trust?  Work where it matters most, achieve what matters more

Our vision is to create a school system where every child thrives, regardless of background. Our people are at the heart of our approach – they are our greatest asset.

We exist to provide the best learning opportunities every day, in every school for every child. It is the people and teams in our Trust who make this a reality and ensure we have the greatest impact. If you join us at Ormiston, whatever your role, you can be sure of a role with purpose and meaning.

Ormiston, where every member of staff enjoys…

The opportunity to build on the legacy of those who came before – being part of one of the longest standing Trusts, created with the sole purpose of enabling children and young people to thrive

Working for a Trust nationally recognised for its impact on disadvantaged children – a rewarding, stimulating career where staff are challenged to be the best they can be, for the pupils we are proud to serve

Being part of a team and community where you belong – receiving bespoke and holistic support from a well-resourced and ambitious network of experts and professionals that work at the heart of communities

A supportive environment to grow your career – an extensive professional development programme, alongside flexible working arrangements and generous benefits

In role, the successful candidate must:

  • Ensure and promote the maintenance of a healthy and safe working environment through actively contributing to the assessment, monitoring and review of both health and safety procedures and information resource;
  • Keep up to date with current procedures and practices through continuing professional development;
  • Provide support on health and safety issues to teaching and technical staff;
  • Oversee the safe treatment, storage and disposal of used materials including hazardous substances and responding to actual or potential hazards;
  • Ensure the availability of suitable materials and equipment, compiling orders and liaising or negotiating with suppliers and finance departments. This will include sourcing, costing and suggesting economic alternatives to maintain stock levels. Keeping up-to-date records of stock.
  • Under the (overall) guidance of the Head of Science, to ensure that both routine and non-routine checking, cleaning, maintenance, calibration, testing and repairing of equipment are carried out to the required standard.
