About the role
As a Personal Care and Medical Teaching Assistant at Heron Hall Academy, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with special educational needs, disabilities and medical needs to access learning, achieve their potential and fully participate in academy life. Working closely with the Head of Inclusion, teachers, pastoral teams and external professionals, you will provide high-quality educational, personal care and medical support that promotes academic progress, independence and wellbeing.
You will support pupils both in the classroom and through targeted interventions, adapting learning activities to meet individual needs while encouraging confidence, resilience and positive behaviour. The role also includes delivering personal care in a dignified and respectful manner, supporting pupils with mobility and medical needs, and helping to create a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a meaningful difference to young people's lives. You will build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues, contribute to the wider life of the academy, and play an integral role in ensuring every pupil has the opportunity to learn, thrive and succeed.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a compassionate, dedicated and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. You will have experience working with secondary-aged pupils, particularly those with special educational needs, physical disabilities and/or medical needs, and be committed to creating an inclusive environment where every pupil feels safe, valued and supported.
You will hold GCSEs (Grade 4/C or above) in English and Mathematics, a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent), and a current First Aid qualification. A Level 3 qualification, degree, or training in SEND, autism or personal care would be advantageous, as would a commitment to continuing your professional development.
The successful candidate will have a good understanding of child development, SEND and positive behaviour support, together with the ability to provide personal care and medical support with dignity, respect and professionalism. You will be confident working collaboratively with teachers, families and external professionals, using your communication, organisational and IT skills to support pupils' learning, wellbeing and progress.
Above all, you will be a caring, patient and resilient team player who remains calm under pressure and is committed to safeguarding, equality, inclusion and the wellbeing of every pupil. You will be proactive, adaptable and motivated to make a positive difference every day, while upholding the Trust's values and contributing to a supportive and aspirational academy community.
