About this Role


Ormiston Forge Academy is an oversubscribed secondary Academy and sixth form located in the Old Hill area of Cradley Heath, West Midlands. At Ormiston Forge Academy we go the extra mile for our young people. The academy is committed to ensuring all stakeholders, whether they be students, staff, parents or the community ‘Learn today for a better tomorrow’. 

We are looking to recruit an experienced, ambitious and motivated Pastoral Leader to support the pastoral team in meeting the responsibilities of the post, as detailed below. Precise delegation of responsibilities will be agreed annually.

  • To assist in the development of a highly inclusive learning community within the Academy leading to outstanding learning experiences and outstanding achievement and attainment for all students. 
  • To ensure that all students feel safe and free from all aspects of bullying 
  • To provide effective support to Head of Year, Assistant Head of Year and team of Form Tutors 
  • To provide a positive professional role model to staff, students and their families in relation to inclusion and restorative practices

Qualifications required 

  • To be considered for the post you must have achieved a minimum of GCSE Grade A to C (or equivalent) passes in maths and English. 
  • First aid training will need to be undertaken if an appropriate First Aid qualification is not already held. 

Requirements  

  • Excellent IT skills, especially Excel. 
  • Excellent communication skills and organisational skills. 
  • Supporting the process of identification of students who are at risk of underachieving and devise effective strategies to ensure that the required progress is made 
  • Being an integral part of the attendance team to ensure that attendance meets or exceeds academy targets 
  • To develop strong partnership links with parents and families 

Personal qualities 

  • Ability to work confidently with students, parents/carers and staff 
  • Ability to understand a child’s educational and pastoral needs 
  • Ability to identify potential barriers to learning and jointly engage in strategies to overcome these barriers 
  • Ability to work effectively with, and command the confidence of teaching staff and senior leadership Team 
  • Ability to work as part of a team understanding school roles and responsibilities and their own position within these 
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues and stakeholders in a fair and equitable manner 
  • Confidence and independence to work using own initiative 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
