The Role
At Sheldon, we have a strong desire
for all students to achieve their potential.
For some of our students, they require additional support for this to
happen. We are seeking to appoint a
qualified Counsellor to join our passionate support team. Our School Counsellor will support students
through targeted counselling interventions and will promote the physical,
mental and emotional wellbeing of our pupils.
Liaising with the Designated Safeguarding Lead, SLT and SENCo, the
successful candidate will play a key part of the school’s pastoral system and
show commitment to developing positive attitudes and approaches to lifelong
learning for all students by providing therapeutic interventions and
strategies.
You will have a positive attitude
yourself and your ability to engage and encourage young people will be
essential, as will your ability to work flexibly to meet their individual
needs. A relevant qualification in
Counselling/Psychotherapy will be essential, and relevant experience of
supporting young people within a secondary school is desirable.

How to make an application
To apply, complete the My New Term Application Form using the Supporting Statement section of the form to detail your suitability for the role, your motivation for making an application and how your knowledge, experience and training meet the person specification.
In line with KCSIE 2023 and safer recruitment practices, the school will conduct an online search for all shortlisted candidates. The online search is part of our safeguarding checks and will seek publicly available information on candidates’ suitability to work with children. Shortlisted candidates will be provided with further guidance and will be asked to clarify their online presence.
References will be obtained before interview at shortlisting stage and may be used in the interview process. If previous employment has included working with children, then at least one referee must be from this employment regardless of whether this is the current or most recent employment Any gaps in employment must be detailed and an explanation provided in the relevant section.
