SCHOOL COMMUNITY SHOP

Come an volunteer in our Community Shop 'Valence on The Green'.

If you can spare some mornings, afternoons or days, we are seeking local volunteers who would be willing to devote their time to support the Community Shop Manager and Assistant Manager. 

What you will be doing:

  • Welcoming customers
  • Receiving and processing donations
  • Sorting, pricing and labelling stock
  • Serving on the till
  • Shop presentation

A great opportunity to meet new people and be apart of the local community, develop practical skills in customer service, retail and teamwork.

Full training will be provided and you will play an important role in raising vital funds. 


IN WATER SWIMMING SUPPORT

Do you enjoy being in the water and working with young people? If you can spare just 2 hours a week during term time, we’d love to welcome you as a volunteer to support our students during their swimming lessons.  Swimming is a highlight of the week for many of our students – it builds confidence, independence and physical wellbeing.  As a volunteer, you’ll be helping students who may need a bit of extra encouragement and guidance in the water.  Our students are highly motivated, appreciative and love swimming!

What you'll be doing:

  • Assisting students in the water alongside trained staff during swimming sessions
  • Encouraging and supporting  students to feel safe, confident and motivated
  • Helping us provide a positive, inclusive experience for every student

    You'll need to:

    • Enjoy being in the water and be able to swim at least 25 metres
    • Enjoy working with children and young people
    • Be patient, reliable, and supportive


      TRANSPORT SAFETY SUPPORT

      Do you have an hour to spare before or after school? We’re looking for local volunteers to help support the safe and smooth arrival and departure of our students at Valence.

      Either Morning: 8.15 – 9.15am and/or Afternoon: 3.00 – 4.00pm.  Choose one or both – even one day a week can make a big difference!

      What you'll be doing:

      • Assisting with the safe flow and parking of transport vehicles
      • Helping ensure that students arrive and leave the school safely and calmly
      • Working as part of a friendly team to direct traffic and support staff

        No experience needed as full training will be provided, however you will need to be calm, observant and happy to help.


        MINIBUS DRIVER

        We are looking for a reliable and friendly Volunteer Minibus Driver to support our residential team with evening trips for young people during term time.

        This role involves transporting students to a range of local activities and outings, helping them enjoy safe and enriching experiences outside the residential setting.

        Hours: Monday to Thursday (Term Time Only) ; Approximately 4:00pm – 10:00pm

        What you'll be doing:

        • Drive the minibus for scheduled evening activities and trip
        • Support the residential team in ensuring safe and enjoyable outings
        • Carry out basic vehicle checks before and after journeys
        • Follow safeguarding, safety and driving policies

        Training and Support:
        Full training will be provided, including KCC Minibus Driver Training and induction and ongoing support.

        We are looking for someone who:

        • Holds a full UK driving licence
        • Is reliable, responsible and safety-focused
        • Enjoys supporting young people to access community activities
        • Is willing to undertake the required training

        You will have the opportunity to make a positive difference to young people’s lives and gain experience working alongside a supportive residential team


        CLASS SCRIBING SUPPORT

        Would you like to help our secondary school students express their ideas and succeed in their learning?  If you can spare just 90 minutes each week to act as scribes for students with physical disabilities. Your support will help them record their thoughts, whether by hand or using a computer, so they can fully access the curriculum.

        What you'll be doing:

        • Writing or typing students’ responses during lessons or assessments
        • Supporting them to communicate their ideas clearly and confidently
        • Working one-to-one or in small groups, guided by teaching staff

        No experience is needed as full training will be provided.  You just need to be a good listener, comfortable with basic writing or typing, reliable and  patient.
