Southill Lower School is a good school (Ofsted 2021), which nurtures values, grows inspiration and raises aspirations.

We are a small, friendly school. We have an idyllic rural setting in grounds owned by the Whitbread estate in the beautiful village of Southill. Our Ofsted report says that “Classrooms and corridors are filled with Laughter”.

In May 2019, Southill Lower School federated with Derwent Primary School. Both schools are good schools (Ofsted 2021 and 2023) Derwent is a friendly, inclusive school with beautiful, extensive grounds located in a semi-rural environment in Henlow, approximately 10 minutes from Southill Lower School.

At Southill Lower School we have created a friendly, caring and supportive environment that encourages our children to fully learn, develop and share a love of learning.  This ethos creates a happy and safe school where all our children are able to make a flying start towards reaching their potential.  We are also a values led school where all members of the community are respected.  Each month we focus on a different value and celebrate when children demonstrate it, whether inside or outside school.

We are fortunate to be based in an idyllic village setting.  As well as a playground area, we have a wildlife garden and pond area that all classes access. Our talented staff use their expertise to extend the opportunities of our pupils both inside and outside the classroom.

Our strong, committed governing body fully supports the school in providing the best possible educational opportunities for all. We have strong links with the Redborne Sports Partnership, which helps us to provide an extended and rich educational experience for our pupils.
