Thank you for your interest in applying for a post at Selston High School. I am pleased that you wish to find out more about our school and in these few words I would like to give you a clear sense of our vision and priorities.
We are an 11-16 school with 900 students, Selston High School is proud of its excellent reputation locally as a safe, caring school with high standards and expectations. This is reflected in the number of students applying to come here, where for the last two years we have been oversubscribed.
First and foremost, Selston is a great place to work. Students and employees share high expectations of each other and we enjoy good relationships with parents who support the school’s aims.
The school’s aim is for every student to achieve their full potential and enjoy the experience of attending Selston High School. The school understands the importance of GCSE examination success for our students’ future life choices but we are also aware of our duty to prepare young people to go out into the world as good citizens, with good mental health who can make a positive contribution to their communities and the future.
We take great pride in the positive attitude and respectful behaviour of Selston students. They work hard, look smart, support each other and actively try to do well in all of their subjects. They are proud of the school and enjoy school.
In 2025, Ofsted found that effective action had been taken to maintain the good standards identified in the previous inspection. Inspectors noted that "the school has high expectations for all pupils", "the school provides strong pastoral care for pupils" and "staff promote an environment where each pupil is inspired to achieve their full potential and enjoy the experience" There are positive relationships between staff and pupils. At Selston we work tirelessly to provide the very best education for our students in order that they leave school with the confidence and ambition to take their place in the world as productive citizens.
All employees at Selston are fully supported to develop professionally. Our in-house and Trust professional learning programme is a particular strength. All employees are encouraged and expected to tap into the array of opportunities on offer. As Ofsted noted “Teachers share resources and best practice from across the school and the Trust.”
The standard of teaching and of support is high at Selston High School. Sustaining these standards is my number one priority.
To develop and improve the school further we need to recruit the best people at every opportunity. We are looking for people who are committed to improving the life choices of Selston students and who can fit the friendly, hard-working and ambitious profile of the employees already here.
If you haven’t already, I would recommend that you visit the school and see us in action. We are always happy to meet prospective applicants and to talk openly and honestly about the school and the post on offer.
Selston High School is a great school to work in and will become even better as we continue to build towards a happy and ambitious future. I look forward to receiving your application.
