About Us...
Welly walks, den building, pond dipping and a wide variety of exciting outdoor learning activities take place in our grounds. We have stimulating playgrounds, large fields and a variety of wild areas, including an orchard and two ponds.
-Excellent phonics teaching.
We are passionate about teaching children to read and our highly successful phonics programme achieves high success rates. We also teach children to love reading, through sharing high-quality story books and giving them access to our well-stocked libraries.
-An inclusive school with high expectations for all children. As a large school, we have access to a wide range of professional expertise including an experienced SEN team, Speech and Language specialists, Teachers of the Deaf, pastoral support and a range of subject expertise. This means we can effectively meet the needs of all our children.
-We have nurturing environments throughout the school. Each classroom and space throughout the school has been created with the children of this school in mind.
-Our experienced and caring staff. We have a committed, experienced staff who work hard to enable every child to meet their full potential, both academically and socially.

-Our inspiring curriculum. We have created our own curriculum which is bespoke to Rushmere Hall. We pride ourselves on our broad and balanced curriculum which engages, inspires and creates a lifelong love of learning.
-We see the potential in all children. At Rushmere we give opportunities to all of our children, whether it’s through sport, music, art, a love of reading or more academic subjects. We offer a wide variety of extra curricular clubs such as squash, choir, netball, chess and Maths Cafe. We take part in sporting events against other schools as well as having our own inter-house competitions.
-Our school values. Throughout your child’s time at Rushmere Hall we aim to instil our school values into their lives and prepare them for their futures. We create independent and resilient learners.
-Excellent communication. We communicate effectively with our parents and carers through face to face conversations, telephone calls and Parentmail.
History & Facilities
Rushmere Hall Primary school was built in 1949 on the site of an old cottage, and many aspects of the original garden and boundary hedges have been retained at the front of the school.
The school is a single story construction, spread over a large area. This enables children to learn in very pleasant, spacious surroundings. There are playing fields at the front and rear of the school, providing games and athletic pitches.
In July 2013, our school successfully obtained a Grade Two listing status (with the help of English Heritage), in recognition of the architectural significance of the school’s design and the Festival of Britain Award of 1951.
The interior of the school is extremely well maintained, with its wide corridors and multiple teaching spaces. The school is well resourced, including the most up-to-date ICT equipment.
Our excellent facilities include the following:-
- 24 classrooms all with easy access to outdoor hard surfaces and green areas.
- 2 halls with full traditional stage settings (one equipped with professional sound and lighting system for school productions)
- Dining room (equipped with interactive whiteboard) & large school kitchen
- Large enclosed sports field, two large all weather playgrounds, and additonal green space
- Outdoor swimming pool and changing facilities
- Bay areas outside classrooms which provide extra teaching space
- Dedicated First Aid room
- 2 libraries
- 2 computer suites and a number of mobile computer suites
- Interactive whiteboards in every classroom
- Purpose built Hearing Impaired Unit
- Speech and Language Unit, with dedicated outdoor learning area
- Nursery centre
- 4 learning support bases (2 in KS1, and 2 in KS2)
- Canopied areas for all Early Years and Key Stage 1 children
- Large Early Years outdoor play area
- Pond and wetland areas
- Outdoor Reading Room
- Music practise room
- The Wooden House Children’s Centre is also located on the school grounds.
- Staff study centre where planning, preparation and training takes place
- Upper key stage two block with 6 new classrooms.
