About this Role

Co‑opted Governor Opportunity

Are you passionate about education and keen to make a meaningful difference in your community?
We are seeking a Co‑opted Governor to join our Governing Body and help shape the future of our school which is recognised as a Centre of Excellence for Centre of Excellence for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

As a Co‑opted Governor, you’ll bring your skills, insight and good judgement to strategic discussions, helping ensure we deliver the very best outcomes for our pupils. You will work collaboratively with fellow governors, the Headteacher and the senior leadership team, always acting in the best interests of the school and wider community.

About the Role

Governors play a vital strategic role, focusing on areas such as:

  • Safeguarding
  • Pupil and staff wellbeing
  • Attendance
  • Quality of education
  • Long‑term school development
  • Effective use of public funds

This is not an operational role. Instead, governors provide constructive challenge, support and oversight, ensuring the school’s work aligns with our vision, values and ethos.

Who We’re Looking For

We want our Governing Body to reflect a broad range of skills and perspectives, representative of the community we serve. We would particularly welcome interest from individuals with experience in:

  • Finance
  • Regulatory compliance
  • SEND
  • Knowledge of the curriculum

You do not need prior governance experience. We welcome applicants who bring enthusiasm, sound judgement, a willingness to learn and a genuine commitment to supporting children and young people, including those with SEND.

  • Our Vision, Ethos and Values

School Vision: to promote our inclusive philosophy, so all thrive and flourish
Ethos: Personal responsibility and self‑respect underpin an inclusive culture where every individual’s views, beliefs and differences are valued.
    Core Values:

    • Respect for Self
    • Respect for Others
    • Respect for Learning
    • Respect for the Environment
    • Responsibility for Actions

    What You’ll Contribute

    ·  Helping to set and review the school’s strategic direction

    ·  Holding leaders to account for educational performance

    ·  Overseeing financial performance and ensuring responsible use of public funds

    ·  Bringing an inquiring mind and engaging in thoughtful, meaningful discussions

    Ideal candidates will:

    • Be invested in children’s education and the school’s success
    • Have a community‑minded approach
    • Work well as part of a team
    • Commit time and energy to the role

    Time Commitment

The role is designed to be purposeful and manageable. It typically involves:

    • Attending several governing body meetings per year
    • Reading papers and preparing in advance
    • Occasional school visits (by arrangement)

    ·         Taking part in training and development opportunities

    Why Join Us?

    ·  A rewarding opportunity to make a real, lasting impact on children, young people and the school community

    ·  Personal and professional development

    ·  Access to free training in education and governance

    ·  Support and mentorship from an experienced and diverse governing board

Our governors share a common goal: ensuring the very best education and opportunities for our students.
