Flimby Primary School is a vibrant village school at the heart of the community. Nestled by the sea and the railway and once home to the many coal pits in the area. We are shrouded in village history, and we are soon to celebrate 150 years!
We pride ourselves in giving the children many opportunities above and beyond the classroom; children take part in sporting events, go on many visits to enhance the curriculum and we have visitors into school. We have adopted Flimby Railway Station which enables us to take the children up and down the coast supporting curricular activities and we have improved the platform to the delight of the village. We have an active PTA (FOFS – Friends of Flimby School) who also provide lots of social activities for the children – discos, movie nights, bingo nights, fayres etc.
OUR VALUES
Our school values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens. Our vision is 'On our journey to success we want everyone to LEARN'.

INTRODUCTION FROM THE HEADTEACHER
Flimby Primary School is at the heart of our community and we pride ourselves with our community links. I started here at Flimby 20 years ago, and fell in love with the school and have never wanted to leave. The children and staff work exceptionally hard, always going the extra mile and I am proud to be the Headteacher.
Every staff member is a valued piece of the jigsaw and work extremely hard to support the children and their families. We also have excellent links with the local community and support many village events.
We have worked extremely hard to improve outcomes for our children and have embedded the use of innovative programmes to enable the children to succeed. In mathematics we use SMART Maths; a unique mastery approach to teaching. It is a structured and coherent mathematics curriculum for the whole school; it delivers a high-quality education with an ambition for all children to develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about mathematics. We use RWI in the infants and any catch up that is needed in KS2. We put the teaching of reading at the heart of our school and ensure teachers have the knowledge and determination to teach every child, regardless of age, background or need. For writing in KS2, we use The Write Stuff; a research informed system that practically applies evidence to improve writing outcomes so that children become confident and adept writers. For reading, we also use Accelerated Reader; which helps create a culture of reading through choice. It puts children in the driver’s seat. We guide children, while engaging quizzes and activities help hone childrens’ reading skills.
We also deliver an enriched curriculum through our foundation subjects, science and RE. Teachers are excited and knowledgeable about the subjects they lead and are keen to enhance these throughout the school.
We understand the importance of mental health for our children and staff and have ensured this is embedded within our school. Years 5 and 6 children have formed a Mental Health Champions group to share their ideas.
Our vision is to ‘change lives through learning’ and we work hard every single day to achieve that. Would you want to be part of this forward thinking and exciting team?
