About this Role

About Us

Drakelow Park Flying High Academy is our fourth brand‑new school, opening in September 2026 within a thriving new community development. With the build progressing on schedule and keys due in April 2026, this is a rare opportunity to help shape a school from the very beginning.

As a new school opening small and growing over time, we are committed to building a culture rooted in aspiration, belonging, and joy. Every member of our team will play a vital role in shaping not just a school, but a community.

Our vision is simple yet powerful:

“Where every child belongs, excels and is championed.”

This vision is fully aligned with the Flying High Partnership’s commitment to creating unique, exceptional, and sustainable schools that inspire communities and empower children.

About Flying High Partnership

Flying High Partnership is a thriving multi‑academy trust of 38 primary schools across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Nottingham City, and Leicestershire. We are driven by our shared values of being unique, exceptional, and sustainable, and we believe strongly in the power of collaboration.

We invest heavily in our people through high‑quality professional learning, leadership development, and strong system support. Together, we make every day count.

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive, skilled and people‑focused School Business Lead to join our founding team. The role is initially offered at 0.4 FTE. As the school grows, there may be opportunities for additional hours or partnership working across Flying High schools, subject to circumstances.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in establishing and shaping the business, financial and administrative systems of a brand‑new school. Working closely with the Headteacher and Trust colleagues, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across the school’s business functions, ensuring strong foundations for future growth.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Lead and develop the school’s administrative and business operations, ensuring efficient, compliant and high‑quality systems.
  • Work closely with the Headteacher to support budget setting, monitoring and financial planning.
  • Oversee HR and personnel administration, ensuring policies, procedures and compliance requirements are met.
  • Lead on procurement and contract management, ensuring best value and effective use of resources.
  • Establish clear, effective systems and processes to support the smooth day‑to‑day running of the school.
  • Build positive, professional relationships with staff, families, governors and external partners.
  • Contribute to the wider life, culture and ethos of Drakelow Park Flying High Academy.

We Are Looking for Someone Who:

  • Has strong experience in school business, administration or operational leadership.
  • Brings a proactive, organised and solutions‑focused approach.
  • Is confident working strategically while also managing operational detail.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Thrives in a growing, evolving environment and enjoys building systems from the ground up.
  • Shares our commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and ensuring the very best outcomes for children.
  • Embodies the Flying High values of being unique, exceptional and sustainable.

We Can Offer You:

  • A unique opportunity to be part of a founding team in a brand‑new school.
  • Strong Partnership  support and collaboration.
  • High‑quality professional learning and development.
  • A culture that values wellbeing, teamwork and professional trust.
  • The opportunity to help shape a school and community from its earliest days.
