About this Role

About This Role

Shine Learning & Training Centre is an Alternative Provision supporting children and young people from KS2, KS3 and KS4 who may be unable to access mainstream education successfully at this point in their journey.

We are seeking an ambitious and passionate Lead Teacher – Curriculum & Quality to play a key role in shaping the quality of education across our provision. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced English teacher who is ready to combine excellent classroom practice with leadership of curriculum, teaching and learning, quality assurance and staff development.

The successful candidate will lead English and NCFE Functional Skills provision, whilst supporting the delivery, monitoring and development of Functional Skills Maths programmes. They will work closely with colleagues to ensure students receive high-quality, engaging and meaningful learning experiences that support both academic achievement and personal development.

At Shine, success is not measured solely through qualifications and academic outcomes. We also celebrate improvements in attendance, confidence, engagement, communication, emotional regulation, resilience and readiness for the next step. The successful candidate will understand that our students need more than excellent teaching alone; they need trusting relationships, consistent adults, clear routines and a curriculum that feels relevant and achievable.

Key Objectives

  • Lead and develop English, Functional Skills and wider curriculum provision across the centre.
  • Support the delivery, monitoring and development of Functional Skills Maths programmes.
  • Drive high-quality teaching and learning through coaching, modelling and quality assurance.
  • Support staff with curriculum planning, assessment, evidence gathering and adaptive teaching strategies.
  • Improve literacy, communication, engagement and qualification outcomes for students.
  • Contribute to the development of a curriculum that is ambitious, inclusive and responsive to student needs.
  • Promote positive outcomes across academic achievement, personal development and future pathways.
  • Support a culture of high expectations, consistency, inclusion and continuous improvement.

Our students may have experienced trauma, adverse childhood experiences, disrupted education, SEND, SEMH needs or significant barriers to learning. The successful candidate will understand the importance of balancing nurture with high expectations, helping young people rebuild confidence, re-engage with education and achieve meaningful success.
