About this Role

We are seeking a highly organised and motivated Governance Professional to join Middlesex Learning Trust, to provide clerking support for our Trust Board and its Committees, as well as MLT Members.

This part time role is ideal if you are looking for flexibility, whilst being part of a supportive team. MLT’s Governance Professional will support the Trust to fulfil its aim of providing the very best education for its students and ensuring that the Trust and its schools create positive working environments for staff.  As this is a new role, we would appoint for one year in the first instance. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the role.

The successful candidate will provide:

  • Effective administration of Trust Board meetings (in person) and Trust Board membership and compliance
  • Effective administration of Committee meetings (virtual). There are three Committees: Students and Standards, Business and Audit and Personnel
  • Effective administration of the Chairs Group and Members meetings (virtual)
  • Professional support and governance advice in line with our policies and regulatory framework
  • Support and guidance for the Clerks of the Local Governing Bodies of the three Trust Schools
  • Oversight and maintenance of GovernorHub online portal
  • Support with the Trust’s annual cycle of activity including a governance conference (in person), training (virtual), recruitment, induction and agenda planning.

Experience of Trust/school governance is desirable. We are looking for an individual who:

  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable the development of strong professional relationships with Trustees, Members and Senior Staff within the Trust
  • Has excellent literacy skills and is experienced in effective meeting administration, preparation of agenda, participation in formal meetings and quality minute taking.

MLT can offer you:

  • Flexible working, with some opportunities to work remotely
  • Membership of the Local Government pension scheme
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (offering a range of free confidential support) and Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Opportunities for professional development and training.

Middlesex Learning Trust (MLT) is a multi-academy trust with three successful secondary schools in Barnet, Enfield and Luton. The key purpose of MLT is to deliver the best possible education for our students, to enable them to maximise their achievements, academically, socially and emotionally ready to take their place in society as positive and successful adults. We are an outward facing Trust and our work includes training teachers (through The Compton SCITT) and delivering nationally accredited programmes, through our work with a Teaching School Hub, including the Early Career Framework and the National Professional Qualifications.

Middlesex Learning Trust are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and require all staff and volunteers to share and demonstrate this commitment. The successful candidate will meet the requirements of the person specification and will be subject to relevant pre-employment checks.

Middlesex Learning Trust would like all candidates to answer specific questions for the personal statement section. For reference, here are a preview of the questions/headings:
