About this Role

Our Basingstoke site is a specialist short stay school supporting learners who have been permanently excluded, are at risk of exclusion, or face significant barriers to inclusion. We also provide outreach services to mainstream schools and home tuition for young people unable to attend school for medical reasons.

At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to nurturing positive relationships, building trust, and helping every learner develop the skills, confidence and aspirations needed to progress successfully into the next stage of their education and beyond.

We are seeking a resilient, compassionate and enthusiastic individual to join our team. The successful candidate will play an active role in supporting and managing the behaviour of students with Social, Emotional, Communication and Interaction Difficulties (SECID), working closely with colleagues, families and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for every young person.

What you'll do

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students and their families.
  • Provide care, guidance, support and appropriate challenge to help learners thrive.
  • Implement behaviour support strategies and restorative interventions.
  • Support students' personal, social and emotional development.
  • Work alongside teachers and support staff to create a safe, engaging and nurturing learning environment.
  • Act as a positive role model, promoting high expectations, consistency and fairness.
  • Contribute to record keeping, behaviour monitoring and safeguarding processes.
  • Participate fully in school life, including activities, trips, training and school events.

What we're looking for

  • Experience working with children or young people with additional social, emotional or behavioural needs.
  • Excellent communication and de-escalation skills.
  • Resilience, patience and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • A caring, empathetic and positive approach.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • A team player who is willing to go the extra mile to support learners' success.

Why join us?

  • The opportunity to make a lasting difference to vulnerable young people's lives.
  • A supportive and experienced staff team.
  • Ongoing professional development and training, including physical intervention training.
  • A role where no two days are the same and every achievement matters.

We are also very happy to answer any questions you may have about the role or our school. To arrange a convenient time to speak in person, or to visit us ahead of applying, please contact the email address detailed below.

Chiltern Way is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

We encourage early applications for this role and reserve the right to close the advert early should we interview and offer to an early applicant.
