About this Role

CWA Austen is a unique co-educational, all-through school for up to 128 pupils aged 5–16 with a primary diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC).

Our purpose-built campus, opened in 2021, offers a modern, well-resourced learning environment with specialist classrooms and extensive outdoor space. We are committed to ensuring every student thrives, builds confidence, and develops the resilience and skills needed to overcome barriers and achieve their full potential.

Our highly skilled and supportive staff team goes above and beyond to meet the individual needs of our learners. We deliver a carefully designed curriculum that combines academic achievement with life skills, ensuring all students are well-prepared for their next stage in education, employment or training.

We pride ourselves on being a warm, welcoming and inclusive school community, where students feel safe, valued and inspired to learn.

The Role

As Deputy Support Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping positive behavioural outcomes across the school. You will lead on the development, implementation and evaluation of behaviour strategies, working closely with staff, students and families.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and embedding effective behaviour management strategies across the school
  • Supporting and coaching staff to build confidence in managing behaviour
  • Planning and delivering targeted interventions for individual students and groups
  • Managing behaviour systems, including CPOMS recording, monitoring and reporting
  • Leading post-incident reviews and ensuring robust follow-up processes
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with parents, carers and external agencies
  • Overseeing and developing the behaviour support team
  • Delivering training, including becoming a General Services (GSA) Tutor
  • Promoting a safe, structured and nurturing environment for all students

You will also contribute to whole-school improvement, ensuring behaviour systems are consistent, effective and aligned with best practice in ASC and SEMH provision.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking someone who:

  • Has experience of working with students with ASC and/or complex behavioural needs
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of behavioural interventions and de-escalation strategies
  • Is calm, resilient and able to manage challenging situations effectively
  • Has excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Can build positive, trusting relationships with young people and their families
  • Is proactive, adaptable and solution-focused
  • Is committed to safeguarding, inclusion and improving outcomes for all learners

You will bring energy, warmth and determination, alongside a genuine commitment to supporting young people to succeed.

What We Offer

  • A supportive and highly collaborative team
  • Extensive professional development opportunities
  • The opportunity to work in a purpose-built, specialist environment
  • A rewarding role where you can make a lasting impact on young people’s lives

If you are ready to take on a rewarding challenge and help our students become the very best versions of themselves, we would love to hear from you.

Apply today and join our outstanding team at CWA Austen.

Chiltern Way is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
