About this Role

Join Our Team at Parkside School!

Are you a proactive and compassionate professional who is passionate about breaking down barriers to education? Parkside School is seeking a dedicated colleague to join us in the crucial role of Attendance and Family Liaison Officer.

As the school’s Attendance Champion, you will work directly with students, families, senior leaders and multi-agency partners to improve and maintain high attendance levels across the academy.  You will build strong relationships between home and school, identify barriers to attendance and deliver targeted interventions to ensure every student gains the maximum life chances from their education.  From undertaking home visits and welfare checks to managing statutory processes and analysing attendance data, your work will directly transform student engagement.

In addition, you will act as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) supporting the work of our wider safeguarding team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attendance Champion & Strategy: Drive school attendance strategies, analyse data to identify trends/concerns, benchmark performance and develop tailored attendance action plans for individual students and vulnerable groups.

  • Family Liaison & Home Visits: Build strong, trust based relationships with parents and carers; plan and conduct home visits, welfare checks and first day contact calls for absent students.

  • Statutory Action & Agency Liaison: Lead on statutory processes regarding non-attendance and education welfare (including penalty notices, CME/EHE protocols with the LA) and collaborate with integrated children's services.

  • Safeguarding & Coaching: Serve as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) contributing to child protection procedures, case conferences and multi-agency meetings, while acting as a coach for a small group of students.

  • Register & Data Management: Ensure daily registers and returns (including school census) are accurate using MIS systems (Arbor/CPOMS), maintaining detailed records of communications and interventions.

  • School & Operational Support: Support transition processes with feeder schools, assist with student supervision and undertake training (including minibus test/First Aid) as required.

Who We Are Looking For

  • Experience: Working in a school or educational setting with young people to improve attendance, identifying and delivering targeted interventions and working directly with families.

  • Skills & Knowledge: Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; ability to analyse data, conduct reports and use IT packages (Excel/Sheets, MIS databases) independently; solid understanding of barriers to attendance, conflict resolution and statutory safeguarding guidance.

  • Qualifications & Training: GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent eg. Adult Literacy/Numeracy at level 2)

  • Personal Attributes: High expectations of self and professional standards, strong drive and integrity, excellent organisational skills, ability to maintain strict confidentiality and willingness/ability to travel for home visits.
