About this Role

Serenity School Maidstone is seeking to appoint an ambitious, motivated and values-driven Assistant Headteacher to join our senior leadership team.

Serenity School Maidstone is a specialist educational setting that provides a safe, nurturing and structured environment for pupils with a wide range of SEND. This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring or existing senior leader to play a key role in shaping school improvement. The successful candidate will support the Headteacher and SLT in the strategic and operational leadership of the school, while leading on key whole-school priorities such as assessment or pastoral development.


Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the Headteacher and SLT in the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the school
  • Leading on a key whole-school area such as assessment or pastoral provision
  • Driving improvements in teaching, learning and pupil outcomes across the school
  • Line managing staff and supporting professional development, ensuring high standards of practice
  • Using data effectively to monitor progress and inform targeted interventions
  • Contributing to school self-evaluation, development planning and inspection readiness
  • Ensuring effective safeguarding, behaviour and wellbeing systems are embedded
  • Teaching as part of a timetabled commitment and modelling high-quality classroom practice

Person Specification

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is an ambitious and reflective leader with a strong commitment to inclusion and SEND provision
  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and has relevant leadership experience or clear leadership potential
  • Has a strong understanding of high-quality teaching, curriculum and assessment or pastoral systems
  • Demonstrates the ability to lead, motivate and develop staff
  • Has excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Is resilient, organised and able to work effectively under pressure
  • Is committed to safeguarding, equality and achieving the best outcomes for all pupils
