Join a faculty where subject expertise is valued and workload is respected.
Why this role matters
As a Teacher of History at Oxford’s newest secondary school, you will be a key part of our "Humanities" faculty. We believe that a rigorous, knowledge-rich History curriculum is a right for all students. You will help our students acquire the historical perspective and critical thinking skills they need to understand their place in the world today.
What you’ll bring
Qualified Teacher Status and a degree in History or a related subject.
Excellent subject knowledge and a passion for evidence-informed pedagogy, such as direct instruction and retrieval practice.
High expectations of student behaviour and a commitment to academic excellence for all.
A collaborative approach, contributing to the development of shared resources and participating in peer coaching.
A commitment to the "whole child", including an active role in our pastoral curriculum and elective programme.
The "Why us" difference We recognise that teaching is a demanding profession, so we have built a school culture that prioritises professional agency and time:
Exemplary Behaviour: Our students are impeccably behaved, supported by consistently applied, centralised systems.
Workload Innovation: We have no written reports, a sensible approach to assessment and minimal after-school meetings.
Professional Growth: Department CPD sessions are integrated into the school day, focusing on what really makes a difference in the classroom.
Sustainable Feedback: We do not require written comments in exercise books; we trust departments to decide on the most effective feedback methods.
The River Learning Trust Connection
The Swan School is a proud member of the River Learning Trust (RLT). Joining us means becoming part of a collaborative network of schools across Oxfordshire and beyond. We offer:
Professional Agency: We trust you as the expert in your domain.
Shared Growth: Access to trust-wide subject networks and professional development pathways.
The Whole Person: A culture that values you as an individual and supports your wellbeing within and beyond the school gates.
