About this Role

Are you someone who is passionate about promoting the value of English to students? Are you able to inspire students to a love of your subject whilst also maintaining the highest expectations for academic achievement? If so, we would be thrilled to hear from you.

Our values at The Misbourne for both students and staff are learning, kindness and excellence; these permeate everything we do, but start with our staff. If you join our staff team, you will be part of a caring, kind and supportive group of professionals who really do share a sense of belonging and camaraderie. We actively look at ways to give staff time back, whether this be with our two week October half term, a flexible PPA which you can take at home every fortnight, or flexible use of  gained time in the summer term.

We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic Teacher of English; you will have the opportunity to work with a talented team to inspire and motivate young people to discover and pursue their own passion for English. If you have skills required to excel in this role, we would love to have you join our team. We would be delighted to invite prospective applicants to visit our school and experience firsthand what makes us a great place to work.

The successful candidate will have an understanding  of curriculum development and delivery in English across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.   You will be committed to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment that enables students to thrive and achieve their full potential, both academically and creatively.

As a member of our Misbourne English team - which consistently achieves good progress and results at KS4 and 5 -  you will benefit from:

  • a fully planned and resourced centralised curriculum across all subjects, meaning we do not expect teachers to go home and do individual planning

  • regular calendared  development time to collaboratively plan and talk about teaching, develop professionally and  reduce workload

  • an academy with high regard and value placed on its staffing body

  • a strong department with a curriculum which develops engaged and well-behaved students to be  creative, articulate, imaginative learners who are confident and secure in their opinions and thoughts.

We are looking for someone who could play a part in helping us achieve our vision of learning, kindness and excellence for every student. We would love to work with you if you are hungry to grow and learn and have a keen interest in becoming the best teacher you can be, by building effective relationships and instilling in students the same love of English that you yourself will have.

The Misbourne is an aspirational and friendly place to work where every student and member of staff is a valued member of our community. Whether you are starting out in your career or looking for your next challenge, our English department has a breadth and depth of experience, with colleagues who thrive in a hard-working and innovative team built over many years. With strong and consistent leadership you can be assured of a genuine commitment to supporting your day-to-day practice and long-term professional development.

Are you:

  • Passionate about working with young people and the importance of education?

  • Able to relate to young people and support them to become independent, resilient learners?

  • Dynamic and organised, with good attention to detail?

  • Someone with good communication, interpersonal and IT skills?

The Misbourne is an 11-18 Academy in the picturesque village of Great Missenden in the heart of the Chilterns. We have nearly 1100 students on roll including a successful and growing Sixth Form. Our staff tell us they genuinely feel like part of a team; a team who are striving to help each student flourish both academically and personally.  Excerpts from our very pleasing 2022 Ofsted inspection include:

  • Pupils told inspectors that the clear and fair behaviour system helps them to behave well.

  • Relationships between staff and pupils are strong.

  • Pupils' conduct around the school is orderly and calm.

  • Pastoral care puts the child at the heart of everything the school does.

We take an evidence-informed approach to school improvement, only implementing what we feel will make the biggest difference to the lives and outcomes of our young people, being mindful of staff workload and well-being. Our Wellbee survey results place The Misbourne in the top 10% of schools for staff peer support, and top 20% for managing staff workload.

We can offer you:

  • Students who are a pleasure to work with

  • An experienced, friendly, and collaborative team of staff

  • The unwavering support of teachers and leaders in ensuring the highest possible standards of student behaviour

  • A strongly led and well-resourced curriculum area

  • A team who will help to guide your development and ensure that you are fully supported in every aspect of your work

  • A flexible PPA that you can take at home every fortnight

  • An academy that puts wellbeing at the top of their priorities

  • A two-week October half term

  • Free access to our own fully-fitted gym (subject to opening hours)

The closing date for applications is 1 July 2024 at 9am and interviews will take place on shortly after closing date

The Misbourne reserves the right to close and shortlist early, therefore early applications are encouraged. Please note all shortlisted applicants will be subject to a pre-employment check.
