This is a fixed term role for 32.5 hours per week, term time only and one week. You will be paid pro rata to the Apprentice National Minimum Wage. The salary is reviewed annually in April in line with the nationally agreed salaries.
Edgar Sewter Primary School is looking for an apprentice who is committed to supporting young learners. You will be part of our friendly and dedicated team from day one. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to start your career as a Teaching Assistant, gaining experience in supporting our teachers and in supporting our pupils with a range of learning needs to achieve their goals and targets, whilst working towards your Level 3 qualification.
As an Apprentice Teaching Assistant, you will work under the instruction/guidance of teaching and senior staff to undertake education support duties and assist the class teacher in the day to day needs of the pupils in their care, to enable the teacher to implement the curriculum and respond to the pupils’ needs.
Day-to-day duties may involve:
Supervise and support the teaching activities of individuals or groups of children/young people to ensure their safety and facilitate their physical and emotional development.
Monitor individual pupil’s progress, achievements and development needs reporting to the responsible teacher as appropriate
Assist the teacher in the development, delivery and
implementation of Next Step /Behaviour Plans and
Personal Care Programmes.
Prepare and deliver programmes to support Special Needs e.g.
Bucket Time, phonic interventions etc following training given under the guidance of the teacher.
Assist the teacher with the planning of learning activities in the
classroom or designated areas preparing or modifying work for
individuals or groups of pupils as directed.
Use strategies in liaison with the teacher, to support pupils to
achieve learning goals.
To prepare and maintain equipment and teaching resources for
lessons and activities
Prepare/clear classroom as directed before and after lessons,
including the preparation of visual aids, and the display
and presentation of the pupil's work.
Participate in personal and professional development activities to
meet the changing demands of the job.
Assisting with the supervision of children at lunchtime.
Desired Personal Skills
Experience of working with children is not essential but you should have a calm and patient nature with a mature outlook and the ability to maintain complete confidentiality on all school matters.
Confident in building and maintaining relationships with young
children
Works well in a team
Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks set
Able to work using own initiative
Able to communicate effectively in spoken or written form
Passes in English and Maths GCSE A*-C / 4 and above or a Level 2 qualification are desirable and a good working knowledge of ICT is helpful.
Working Week and Hours: Term Time only; 8:35 am till 3:35 pm.
Salary: Apprenticeship Wage from £6.40 per hour.
