About this Role

We are seeking an ambitious leaser to join our SLT as Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Teaching, Learning and Assessment.

The Deanes is a small secondary school where relationships matter and every young person is known, valued and supported. We are proud of our local reputation for inclusivity but we’re also determined to build on our strong foundations and further raise standards, outcomes and aspirations for all students. This role is central to that ambition.

The successful candidate will lead on the strategic development of teaching, learning and assessment across the school. You will:

  •  Drive consistently high-quality teaching that enables all students to succeed
  • Develop a culture of high expectations and academic ambition
  • Lead the effective use of assessment to inform teaching and accelerate progress
  • Support and challenge colleagues through coaching, CPD and instructional leadership
  • Use evidence-informed approaches to improve classroom practice
  • Work closely with the wider SLT and SEEAT Education team to shape the school’s improvement journey

Whether you are an existing senior leader looking for a new challenge or an experienced teacher looking for your first leadership role, you will have a strong track record of improving teaching and learning and believe in inclusion and high standards for every student.

You will be passionate about raising aspirations and widening opportunities, and excited by the opportunity to make a real difference in a small school setting.

It is important that you can inspire, motivate, and develop staff at all stages of their careers, and that you are resilient, reflective, and committed to your own professional development.

We've put together a recruitment pack that we think will give you a real feel for the role and the type of person we're looking for.

In return, we offer a genuine chance to shape whole-school practice and outcomes whilst being part of a supportive and collaborative leadership team. As part of South East Essex Academy Trust, you will have access to all SEEAT employee benefits – including collaboration with other schools and professional learning through the SEEAT Institute.

The Deanes is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects its entire staff to share this commitment. All postholders working in our schools will be considered to work in Regulated Activity and will be required to have an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS). In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance all shortlisted candidates may be subject to online searches that may include social media.
