Joseph Norton Academy in Huddersfield is a special academy educating children and young people with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties across Kirklees. The school prides itself on its use of nurture, social pedagogy and its focus on preparation for adulthood.

THE ROLE As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant HLTA you will be supporting outstanding progress in learning.  You will make connections, develop relationships and lead our pupils on the path to a bright future.  This will include working under the guidance of a teacher/ phase lead to support the academic and personal development of children throughout the school day.  This includes:

  • Supporting and leading a class 

  • Ability to form relationships and communicate effectively

  • Manage student behaviour in the classroom and handle disruptive behaviour, always promoting a positive learning environment

  • Completing pupil records with regular feedback to senior colleagues

  • Flexible to cover other classes and act up where necessary

  • Using your experience to lead enrichment groups

  • Be involved and active with all activities we as a school may promote

  • Direct junior staff

THE CANDIDATE

  • Experience in a school or similar setting 

  • Experience working with children/ young people with SEN / SEMH needs

  • Educated with GCSE Maths and English 

  • Level 3 qualification with desire to complete Level 4

  • HLTA qualification OR willing to achieve within 2 years through our CPD programme

  • Car driver with access to own vehicle

  • As well as our values as outlined above we are seeking resilience from our HLTA

SALARY/ HOURS Starting salary for HLTA is £26,348 actual annual salary (£34,434 FTE) working 32.5 hours per week Mon-Fri term time only + 5 inset days + amazing benefits working for our Wellspring trust
