About this Role

The School Librarian plays a key role in supporting the school’s literacy strategy by developing the library as an inclusive, well‑resourced and purposeful learning environment in both the primary and secondary phases.
This is a great opportunity to further develop our libraries as purposeful learning environments that support the school’s literacy strategy, promote reading for pleasure and deliver targeted interventions that help pupils overcome barriers to learning.
Working collaboratively with teaching and pastoral staff, the librarian supports the implementation of targeted reading interventions for pupils who need additional help to improve fluency, comprehension and confidence. These interventions are carefully matched to pupils’ needs, monitored for impact and enable pupils to overcome barriers to reading, helping them to access the full curriculum and make sustained progress. Through promoting reading for pleasure and targeted support, the role has a clear and measurable impact on pupils’ outcomes and wider personal development.
As the School Librarian, working closely with the English team in both primary and secondary you will deliver targeted literacy interventions, working with small groups of pupils to address gaps in reading, improve fluency and comprehension, and build confidence. Interventions will be carefully matched to pupils’ needs, with progress monitored to ensure a positive impact on literacy and wider curriculum access.
