About this Role

PolyMAT is a small and ambitious MAT with a unique family feel that is seeking a School Librarian.   Our vision is ‘Success for Everyone’ and the successful candidate will help deliver this for our schools. We currently have three schools in our Trust: Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys, a long-successful boys’ school, Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls that opened in 2019, and Bannockburn Primary School, a large successful primary that joined the Trust on 1st November 2023.  We also have our flourishing Sixth Form provision which is co-educational.

Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys is seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and creative School Librarian who is able to maintain an established library that is at the heart of learning in the school, whilst promoting and maintaining a stimulating and welcoming environment. The post holder will be expected to promote the value of reading throughout the school and encourage all students to read for pleasure. The Librarian will work alongside teaching staff to support and develop students’ academic reading and research skills and facilitate independent learning. Our aim is to foster a lifelong love of reading throughout the school community.

The ideal candidate will have:

·                Knowledge of and passion for children’s literature

·                Understand how to improve literacy levels

·                Understand how to engage students in reading at all stages of their reading journey

·                Excellent numeracy, literacy and oracy skills, including English and Maths GCSE at grades A* to C

·                Ability to work in a team and be part of the wider life and ethos of the school, creating buy-in from the wider school about the importance of reading

·                Good ICT knowledge (Microsoft Excel, Word & Outlook, Library Catalogue Software).

·                Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise and multi-task with good attention to detail

·                Ability to multi-task and work under pressure to meet deadlines

·                Ability to work independently
