Are
you passionate about literature, language, and the power of words? Do you dream
of inspiring young minds to explore the magic of Shakespeare, unravel the
mysteries of metaphor, and master the art of the persuasive essay? Can you
listen to multiple interpretations of ‘Macbeth’ without quoting “Out, damned
spot!” under your breath? If so, we’d love to welcome you to St John Fisher
Catholic College!
About This Role
We
are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of English to join our
dynamic faculty. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality English
lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, ensuring learners develop a love for
reading, writing, and analytical thinking. From guiding Year 7 through their
first taste of Dickens to helping Year 11 craft the perfect response to unseen
poetry, your impact will be lasting and profound.
What Can We Offer You?
·
A passionate and collaborative
English faculty dedicated to academic excellence.
·
A well-structured Mastery
curriculum, based on AQA
specifications for GCSE and A-Level, ensuring learners engage
with a wide range of classic and contemporary texts.
·
Engaged learners who love a good
debate, whether it’s over the tragic fate of Romeo or the relevance of
dystopian fiction today.
·
Excellent resources, including
interactive smart TVs, a well-stocked library, and a strong digital learning
platform.
·
A strong focus on CPD and career
progression, supporting you to develop as a teacher and leader.
·
The opportunity to inspire learners
beyond the classroom through extracurricular activities such as creative
writing clubs, theatre trips, public speaking competitions, and school
productions.
About the English Faculty
English
is at the heart of our curriculum, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and
confident communication.
·
KS3:
Learners explore a broad and engaging curriculum, developing essential reading,
writing, and spoken language skills. Expect classic literature, diverse modern
texts, and lively discussions (often about whether ‘Of Mice and Men’ or ‘Animal
Farm’ was the best class read).
·
GCSE:
Following the AQA English Language
and English Literature specifications, learners study a diverse
range of fiction and non-fiction texts, including Shakespeare, 19th-century
literature, modern drama, and poetry.
·
A-Level:
Our AQA English Literature and
English Language courses challenge learners to deepen their
analytical skills, engage with complex texts, and refine their own writing
styles—perfect for future journalists, novelists, or even teachers like you!
What Can You Offer Us?
We
are looking for an inspirational English teacher who can:
✔ Motivate and inspire learners of
all abilities to develop a love for English.
✔ Deliver engaging and
thought-provoking lessons that spark curiosity and discussion.
✔ Bring innovative teaching
strategies to the classroom, making English accessible and exciting.
✔ Support learners in achieving
outstanding progress, whether they dream of becoming the next J.K. Rowling or
just need to conquer the dreaded analysis of an unseen poem.
✔ Work collaboratively with
colleagues to enhance the curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities.
✔ Accept that, at some point, you will have to act out parts of ‘A
Christmas Carol’, possibly with dramatic flair.
So,
if you’re ready to share your passion for English, inspire young minds, and
shape the next generation of writers, poets, and critical thinkers, we would
love to hear from you!
Join
us at St John Fisher Catholic College and help us bring the beauty of language
to life- one well-structured paragraph at a time.
