Core Purpose:
To work with the class teacher to
provide an outstanding education for pupils in line with the principles of the
Early Years Foundation Stage:
•
To work with the teacher to establish a structured free flow learning
environment within the four principles of the Early Years Framework.
• To lead, organise and deliver group and individual learning
experiences in the areas of the curriculum identified by the Teacher.
•
To work with the teacher to support behaviour for learning within
the efficiency of Positive Behaviour Support.
•
Support a climate of positive wellbeing within Early Years
Foundation Stage for staff and young people.
•
To contribute to the assessment of pupils’ progress.
•
To support the work of the other colleagues in the team.
•
To provide cover for teachers in their own or other teams as
appropriate.
• Working with the teacher to write, implement and evaluate one-page profiles and pupil centred learning plans.

Key responsibilities:
Support for pupils:
•
Support pupils to engage in
learning activities, adapt tasks for individuals and assist them to make
progress.
•
Attend to the pupils’ personal needs, and implement related
personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and
welfare matters.
•
Supervise and support pupils ensuring their safety and
access to learning in a clean and tidy environment.
•
Establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role
model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs.
•
Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
•
Encourage pupils to interact with others and develop
positive relationships.
•
Encourage pupils to act independently as appropriate.
•
Learn and use safe systems for moving and handling and
physical interventions as appropriate.
Support
for the teacher
•
Use specialist skills acquired from training and experience to
prepare and lead learning activities for groups and individual pupils, in own
class and when covering for teachers.
•
Work with the teacher to create a positive learning environment
(with appropriate resources and displays) to support and celebrate pupils’
progress.
•
Provide objective and accurate
feedback and reports to the teacher as required, on pupil achievement, progress
and other matters, ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence.
•
To prepare written notes for pupil’s Initial Reviews and Annual
Progress Reports in areas agreed with the class teacher.
Support
for the curriculum
•
Use strategies, as directed by the teacher, to help pupils
to achieve learning goals in all areas of the curriculum.
•
Adapt strategies and approaches to meet pupils’ individual
needs.
•
Prepare and maintain equipment/resources as directed by the
teacher and assist pupils in their use.
•
Assist with planning for children in allocated classes within the
Early Years Framework and the school’s specialist curriculum.
Support for the school
•
Be aware of and comply with
policies and guidelines relating to safeguarding and child protection, e safety
and the use of social media, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
•
Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating
to health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting
all concerns to an appropriate person.
•
Be aware of and support diversity and ensure all pupils have
equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
•
Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the School as
set out in its Code of Conduct.
•
Appreciate and support the role of other professionals.
•
Attend relevant meetings as required.
• Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.
•
Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson times,
including before and after school and at lunchtime.
•
Accompany teaching staff and pupils on educational visits
and out of school activities. Accompany individual pupils on a one-to-one
basis, locally, if required.
