About this Role

Higher Level Teaching Assistant Post- 3.75 Hours a week

Starting 1st September 2026

We are a thriving, growing village school, located in the Oxfordshire village of Southmoor. Our vision is to grow flourishing learners who have a sense of belonging to our school community, believe in themselves and others and aim to be as brilliant as they can be. Our approach to life at school is that ‘happy children learn’, and this is evident through our school values and ethos.

We are looking to appoint a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to work with children across our school, supporting them in their learning. Applicants should be able to work well in a team and be flexible, have a positive outlook and high expectations of all children.  A good standard of numeracy and literacy (GCSE grade A – C/ Grade 9-4) is required in this role.  The HLTA role complements the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under an agreed system of supervision.

We are proud to be part of the Cambrian Learning Trust, an eighteen school multi-academy trust, which was established on 1st February 2025.

Our school  environment is consistently safe and calm. Leaders and staff know pupils and their needs well. Our pupils understand the school's high expectations and they behave responsibly in lessons and at social times. Partnerships with our parents and carers are positive. (Ofsted December 2025)

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed so that you can experience our wonderful school first-hand. Please contact the school office to make an appointment.

You will:

  • Have an enthusiastic and positive approach to teaching and school life.

Be organised and able to use your initiative

  • Believe that every child can, and will, succeed.

  • Have the highest aspirations and expectations for every child, the school, and yourself.

  • Demonstrate an ability to develop and promote our school vision and the values-based ethos of our school.

  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with children, staff and parents.

  • Have the passion and vision to work as part of a team in promoting excellence.

    We offer you:

  • A warm and welcoming positive working environment.

  • Polite, well-behaved and engaged pupils who are motivated to learn.

  • A supportive staff team, made up of several experienced members of staff and a strong SLT.

  • Close links with supportive Governors, the local community and a strong PTA.

  • A school who values working in close partnership with our families.

  • Excellent opportunities for personal development.

John Blandy Primary School and Cambrian Learning Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and preventing extremism. We expect all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. All post holders in regulated activity are subject to appropriate vetting procedures and a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Check.

Shortlisted candidates will be subject to online searches for publicly available information.
