About this Role

Reporting to the assistant head teacher, the successful candidate will have developed effective strategies to secure good outcomes for students in all Key Stages, have the ability to lead their team, and be able to demonstrate the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents and carers, along with showing they are able to demonstrate they can implement the academy’s commitment to the safety and welfare of children.

They will demonstrate a passion for the subject, have the ability to inspire students, have commitment to raising participation levels in extra-curricular activities, and have an awareness of curriculum developments across the key stages.

Through their leadership they will provide a learning environment in which students can thrive, and help every individual in our school community to develop the character required to make the right choice for lifelong success.

The Head of Department will have the support of a committed teaching team and many opportunities to work collaboratively with a supportive group of curriculum leaders. The teachers working in the department are extremely knowledgeable and experienced and work closely together, whose intent is to foster a deep and lasting understanding of mathematics in our students, equipping them with the confidence and skills to apply mathematical concepts throughout their lives. To accomplish this we aim to work with our students to develop resilient, independent learners who approach mathematics with curiosity and confidence.

By creating a supportive and stimulating learning environment, we aim to instill a love for mathematics, encouraging students to see its relevance and power in the world around them. Furthermore, we aim to nurture critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and numerical fluency, ensuring students can navigate everyday challenges and pursue their future aspirations with confidence in their mathematical ability.
