The school motto is 'achieving excellence through personal growth' and our core values are

There has been education on our present site since the academy was founded by Thomas Alleyne, Rector of Stevenage, in 1558. Throughout our proud history we have been committed to achieving excellence in all that we do. We expect the highest standards of behaviour and achievement from all members of our community. We achieved Academy status on 1st September 2013, sponsored by North Hertfordshire College.
