About this Role

Through a well thought out curriculum and well executed lessons we hope to play a part in creating confident and courageous young people who are liberated through the knowledge we teach them to be critical evaluators in an ever changing world.

We aim to inspire all students to feel passionately about the science of everyday life to see how the big ideas of science have developed throughout time and are a continuum of ideas and theories that at times involve paradigm shifts in our cultures and beliefs.  We hope that in doing so we are preparing our young people to question and embrace further developments and to use scientific fact to differentiate from the fake news and scaremongering that is all around us.

The successful candidate will have experience of working with children aged 11-16 years and be able to demonstrate they can implement the academy’s commitment to the safety and welfare of children. They will also demonstrate a passion for the subject, have the ability to inspire students, have commitment to raising participation levels in extra-curricular activities, and have an awareness of curriculum developments across the key stages.

This position is suitable for all teachers, including those undertaking an ECT programme.

Working with students in both Key Stage 3 and 4, you will:

  • Promote good progress and outcomes by being aware of students’ capabilities and their prior knowledge, and plan teaching to build  on these, along with encouraging students to take a responsible and conscientious attitude to their own work and study
  • Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge
  • Plan and teach well-structured lessons,  promoting a love of learning and children’s intellectual curiosity, and setting homework and planning other out-of-class activities to consolidate and extend the knowledge and understanding students have acquired
  • Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all students
  • Make accurate and productive use of assessment
  • Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment
  • Fulfil wider professional responsibilities, by making a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the academy, developing effective professional relationships with colleagues, taking responsibility for improving teaching through appropriate professional development, and delivering pastoral work as specified by the Head of Year, communicating effectively with parents with regard to students’ achievements and wellbeing.
