About us

The Ferrars Academy is a very popular, successful and well resourced academy; rated Good by Ofsted, we pride ourselves on delivering excellence in education, for infant and nursery aged children. We are located on the outskirts of Luton close to the M1, A5 link roads and the L&D hospital. Our 3 form entry school has a very diverse school population with a range of different languages, religions and cultures. Our children are well behaved and learn in a vibrant and friendly environment.

About the job

We are looking to appoint someone to work in our busy school office. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to priorities, be well organised with excellent IT skills.

Duties are wide and varied but predominantly include:

  • ·         Providing a full reception service to the school including taking telephone calls and messages, greeting pupils and visitors and assisting as appropriate, receiving deliveries etc.
  • ·         Maintaining pupils welfare including the management of medicine and care plans and pupil records, defining the first aid provision across the school and liaising and assisting outside agencies.
  • ·         Operating computerised information and communication systems to support the administration and management of the school.
  • ·         Providing general administration and clerical assistance.

This is a permanent position, starting February 2026.

Term time only

Working hours:

Monday – Wednesday 8:30am – 4:00pm

Thursday - Friday 8:00am – 4:00pm

36 hours per week with 30 minutes unpaid lunch break

Salary £21347 - £22033

About you

You will have a good level of spoken and written English, be a confident communicator; providing front line representation of the Academy both face to face and by answering calls and taking enquiries. You will need to be able to deal politely and tactfully with a wide range of people and have sound verbal reasoning skills. You will need to have an excellent attention to detail, ensuring accuracy at all times. You will be proficient with the use of email and productivity tools such as Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 and be willing to learn internal processes and administrative online systems. A knowledge of Arbor (school MIS system) or a willingness to learn is essential. You will need to be comfortable juggling many different requests and show a keen interest in playing a full part in the life of our school community.
