I am very proud to be the Principal at The Ferrars Academy.  We provide education for Infant and Nursery aged children and pride ourselves on ensuring high quality provision across the early years of education.

We are located on the outskirts of Luton close to the M1, A5 link roads and the Luton & Dunstable hospital.

The Ferrars Academy is a 3 form entry school with 90 Reception places available each year.  In addition, we have a large Nursery unit for children aged 3 - 4 offering both 15 hour and 30 hour placements.

We have an excellent reputation of working with pupils with SEND and we provide high quality support to children of all abilities

We have a clear vision where values (including British values) are key to our children’s personal development and these are the fundamental basis to our school and the expectations we have for and embed in our children.

Our curriculum

We have relished the chance to re-invigorate our curriculum and have chosen to develop a thematic curriculum, based around books with exceptionally high quality text. 

We believe it is essential for children to be exposed to rich vocabulary in order to thrive and gain the widest knowledge alongside a love of reading which opens up all manner of possibilities in the real world.

We also firmly believe that our children need to have practical hands on experiences in order to cement learning and make natural links between subjects.  In addition we greatly value the impact of outdoor learning and are on our learning journey to develop our outdoor learning provision across all age groups, sharing the expertise in the foundation stage across Key stage 1 and instill investigation and exploration skills in all our children.

Each half term begins with a ‘Wow’ start, to launch the themes learning and engage children’s curiosity.  The unit concludes with a ‘Fantastic finish’ which is a celebration of knowledge and skills learnt and helps reinforce cross curricular links for children.

The Ferrars Academy had its most recent Ofsted inspection in May 2017 in which we were rated a ’Good’ provider. Please read our full report for more information. Inspectors also identified how well we work with parents and how well they feel their children are cared for and feel safe at school.

In a desire to develop collaboration with others and to widen opportunities for our school community, we work closely with other local schools as part of the West Area Partnership.  We support one another in a range of ways, including the sharing of good ideas, shared staff training and where appropriate the purchase of resources.

We are keen to extend our very supportive staff team and would like to work with colleagues who share our vision for excellence in Early Years Education.
