About this Role

Why join us?

Heron Hall Academy is an ambitious, eight-form entry mixed secondary school and a proud part of North Star Community Trust , a family of schools built on the belief that we are Stronger Together. The Trust plays a vital role in the communities it serves, creating real, lasting change through education, opportunity and support.

At Heron Hall, we share the Trust’s vision - to help every child succeed at school and in life. We live by the values of Education, Community, Opportunity , ensuring every pupil receives an excellent education, feels part of a strong and caring community, and has the chance to grow into a confident, well-rounded individual.  As soon as you enter Heron Hall, you feel the pride, purpose and unity that define us. Our high standards and inclusive culture ensure that every pupil is supported, challenged and inspired to reach their full potential. We believe in every child  and together, with North Star Community Trust, we help them believe in themselves.

About the role

As Pastoral Lead, you will provide daily support to pupils, responding to behavioural, emotional, social and attendance concerns.  Act as the first point of contact for parents/carers, resolving concerns and fostering strong home-school relationships.

You will support pupils facing a range of challenges, including those with SEND, EAL or other barriers to learning, while maintaining accurate pastoral records and contributing to safeguarding processes. You will work closely with Heads of Year, teaching staff and external agencies to deliver restorative approaches and targeted interventions, fostering a safe, respectful and inclusive school culture.

What we are looking for

Proven experience in pastoral care or pupil support in a secondary school setting, with a strong understanding of child development, safeguarding, inclusion and SEND. You will demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills, along with the ability to manage casework, maintain accurate records and use data to inform interventions. Calm, approachable, proactive and solution-focused, you will also possess strong organisational skills to support the effective delivery of pastoral care.

What we offer

Our pledge is to offer a supportive, caring, meaningful place to work and learn. Being an employer of choice is our continued aspiration. We offer a range of benefits to our staff:

  • Access to NSCT Health Cash Plan, covering a range of healthcare cover, benefits, perks and discounts
  • Career pathways and leadership development
  • Continuous professional development and training opportunities
  • Promote manageable workloads and support a healthy work life balance
  • Generous pension scheme
  • Subsidised lunches in our canteen
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Staff referral bonus scheme
  • Free onsite parking
