About the role

We are looking for an inspirational, dedicated and experienced Head of Physical Education to provide strategic and operational leadership within our academy. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a department that delivers a high-quality, inclusive and engaging curriculum, supporting pupils across all key stages and designed to meet the needs of all learners. The PE curriculum at our academy is rooted in pupil development and a love for learning. It offers a broad and balanced programme that incorporates a wide range of sports and physical activities, promoting physical literacy, confidence, teamwork and healthy lifestyles.

As Head of Department, you will be responsible for leading curriculum development, staff management and departmental improvement, ensuring high-quality teaching, learning and outcomes for pupils. You will provide clear direction for the team, oversee resource management and use data analysis to inform decision-making. A teaching commitment is included within the role, enabling you to model excellent classroom practice, mentor colleagues and remain actively engaged with pupils’ learning experiences.

What we are looking for

You will be a qualified teacher (QTS) with a degree in PE, Sports Science, or a related field, and strong leadership experience in secondary education. You will have a proven track record of delivering outstanding PE across Key Stages 3–5, delivering successful outcomes for the Cambridge National in Sports Studies, driving curriculum development, supporting diverse learners and improving outcomes through innovative teaching and strategic initiatives.

Passionate about sport, health and wellbeing, you will motivate pupils and staff, lead extracurricular programmes and foster an inclusive, safe and high-performing learning environment. Strong organisational, communication, and IT skills are essential, along with a commitment to professional development and upholding the highest standards.

What we offer

Our pledge is to offer a supportive, caring, meaningful place to work and learn. Being an employer of choice is our continued aspiration. We offer a range of benefits to our staff:

  • Access to NSCT Health Cash Plan, covering a range of healthcare cover, benefits, perks and discounts
  • Career pathways and leadership development
  • Continuous professional development and training opportunities
  • Promote manageable workloads and support a healthy work life balance
  • Generous pension scheme
  • Subsidised lunches in our canteen
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Staff referral bonus scheme
  • Free onsite parking
