About this Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated and highly motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join us here at City of Peterborough Academy.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional who is passionate about supporting children and young people to achieve their full potential.

Working closely with Teachers and SLT, you will lead and deliver learning activities, support pupil progress, and play a key role in creating a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Lead and deliver learning activities to individuals, small groups, and whole classes under the direction of teaching staff.
  • Assess pupils' needs and use specialist skills and knowledge to support learning and achievement.
  • Establish positive and productive relationships with pupils, acting as an effective role model and setting high expectations.
  • Promote inclusion and ensure all pupils have equal access to learning opportunities.
  • Encourage pupils to participate fully in learning activities and interact positively with their peers.
  • Foster independence, confidence, and resilience by recognising and rewarding achievement.
  • Organise and manage learning environments and resources to support teaching and learning objectives.
  • Monitor, assess, and evaluate pupil progress, providing accurate and constructive feedback to teaching staff.
  • Support positive behaviour management strategies and promote self-discipline and independence.
  • Prepare lesson materials, worksheets, and learning resources in line with teaching plans.
  • Produce lesson plans and support the administration, marking, and assessment of tests and examinations.
  • Use ICT effectively to enhance learning and develop pupils' digital skills.
  • Support the school's safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality, and data protection policies.
  • Contribute positively to the wider ethos, values, and aims of the school.
  • Share expertise and provide guidance and support to colleagues where appropriate.

  • Has experience of supporting teaching and learning within a school environment.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Can inspire, motivate and engage children and young people.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to inclusion and supporting pupils with a range of needs.
  • Has strong organisational and classroom management skills.
  • Is confident using ICT to support learning.
  • Can work independently while also being an effective member of a team.
  • Has a positive, flexible and proactive approach to work.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
