Icknield
High School is a state funded secondary academy school with 1450 students. It
has an Ofsted rating of ‘good’ – February 2024. It caters for students aged
between 11 and 16 in Luton, Bedfordshire. The school is located in north Luton
and just off the A6.
At Icknield High School everything we do is underpinned by our overriding philosophy of ‘Raising the Achievement of All’. We have consistently high expectations of our students and encourage excellence in all aspects of school life. In 2025, 57% of our students achieved a grade 5 and above in Maths and English and 74% achieved a grade 4 and above in Maths and English. These are the highest outcomes in Luton town.
We are seeking an exceptional and compassionate leader to join our Senior Leadership Team as Associate Assistant Headteacher, with strategic responsibility for pastoral provision, behavior intervention, wellbeing and personal development.
The successful
candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping a culture where every student
feels known, supported and able to thrive. This includes leading on the
development of a coherent pastoral strategy that promotes high expectations,
emotional resilience and a strong sense of belonging across the school. You
will work closely with pastoral and safeguarding teams to ensure that systems
are robust, inclusive and responsive to the diverse needs of our students,
while also driving proactive approaches that reduce barriers to learning and
improve overall wellbeing.
In addition, the
role requires a leader who can inspire colleagues and model best practice in
behaviour intervention, enrichment and student engagement. You will oversee the
design and implementation of targeted support programmes, ensuring that
interventions are evidence‑based, impactful and aligned with whole‑school
priorities. A key part of the role will be to enhance our enrichment offer,
broadening opportunities for students to develop their character, confidence
and aspirations beyond the classroom. Through strategic leadership and
collaborative working, you will help shape an environment where students
flourish academically, socially and personally.
Furthermore,
you will lead on a key aspects of school development plan and operations based
on your expertise and at the discretion of the Headteacher.
