About Icknield High School
Located in the city of Luton, Bedfordshire, Icknield High School is a secondary academy, with a specialist status in art. Although the school has no sixth form, it has around 1450 pupils aged 11-16 in a co-educational setting, making it considerably larger than the average school of its type. Icknield School has an extremely culturally diverse catchment area, a fact reflected in the school’s student intake. Although the vast majority of teaching take place in school, a small number of students do make use of local off-site provision for particular subjects or needs.

Icknield School encapsulated its vision and ethos in its maxim, “Icknield Cares”. The school, strives to Celebrate, both the uniqueness of the school and its pupils; Achieve, helping each student reach their potential; Respect, for all faiths and cultures represented at the school; Enjoy, both their learning and their time outside the classroom; and finally Support, ensuring that students are properly guided through their academic studies. The school takes great pride in its diversity, and goes far to stress the importance of British values such as tolerance and mutual respect, among others.

This is supported by the positive comments received, particularly the views expressed in Ofsted’s online questionnaire to parents. Parents praise the way the school knows its pupils. One parent wrote, ‘They are not faces among the crowd, but individuals who are listened to.’”
