We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher of Art and Design and Technology to deliver high-quality lessons that support students in achieving outstanding progress. The successful candidate will set clear learning targets, assess student progress with regular feedback, and ensure students are well-prepared for examinations. With a genuine passion for Art and Design and Technology you’ll help our students grow academically, socially, and emotionally, while staying up-to-date with current educational thinking. They will contribute to schemes of work, maintain a stimulating learning environment, and engage with parents and the wider school community. The role also involves taking responsibility for professional development and actively participating in school duties and performance management activities.
Art- The art department is housed in a specialist suite of rooms with students being taught in tutor groups up to year 9, and then it is an option at KS4 and KS5.
Design and Technology -The Design and Technology Faculty consists of 3 main departments (Design Technology, Food and Textiles). In KS3, the subjects are taught on a rotation, and then it is an option at KS5. Department facilities consist of 3 well-equipped workshops, 1 graphics room (as well as a dedicated work space), two textiles rooms and two food technology rooms.
Course Information – Art, Photography and Textiles- The KS3 scheme has been created in house with reference to the NC and does not refer to a specific published scheme. KS3 schemes of work include clay, print making, photography, animation and drawing skills; all of which are essential. In KS4 we follow the Eduqas specification for GCSE Fine Art, GCSE Art Textiles and GCSE Art & Design. In the sixth form at the Howard, students study Art, Art Textiles and Photography (all WJEC exam board.)
Course Information – Design and Technology- At GCSE and A-Level the Design Technology course has a ‘Resistant Materials’ and a ‘Graphics Pathway’. Additionally, Food Preparation and Nutrition is offered at GCSE (all WJEC exam board.)
