About this Role

West Midlands Academy Trust (WMAT) is a dynamic group of 3 secondary schools, founded in South Birmingham in January 2025 of which Kings Norton Girls’ School and Sixth Form (KNGS) is a founding member. The formation of WMAT has been a very positive move for the continued development of the school. KNGS also actively engages in the South Area Network of schools (SAN). For the right person, this is an outstanding opportunity to build on this fantastic legacy and lead the school on the next stage of its journey.

We are proud of our vibrant, socially and culturally diverse school, which lies in the heart of our community, and is highly regarded in our local area and beyond; this is reflected in our school being full and over-subscribed in all year groups, including in our co-educational Sixth Form.  The post is available from September 2026 on a full time, permanent basis.

KNGS received an outstanding OFSTED inspection in 2019, an ungraded inspection in January 2025 confirmed that the school had maintained and improved on the previous inspection. Educational outcomes are excellent with 2024 Progress 8 being +0.64, with A level value added at national average in 2025.  Due to the retirement of the current Headteacher, we are seeking to appoint an exceptional Headteacher to provide inspiring, valuesdriven leadership. The successful candidate will continue to foster a culture built on aspiration, around our vision of ‘Opening a World of Opportunities’ through the values of ‘Demonstrating respect and courage in order to flourish’.

The successful candidate will be an experienced leader who can demonstrate the following: -

  • An inspirational senior leader with a track record of outstanding teaching, successful whole‑school improvement and raising student outcomes across the 11–16 phase.
  • Deep knowledge of pastoral systems, curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and current educational policy, with the evaluative skills to drive high standards and continuous improvement.
  • A strategic, analytical thinker able to lead change, navigate complexity and make evidence‑based decisions that continue to strengthen teaching, learning, ethos values and culture.
  • Experience developing the quality of education, leading teams and managing whole‑school systems.
  • Financial awareness and knowledge in the use of educational, operational and financial data.
  • Excellent understanding of safeguarding, equality, inclusion and legal responsibilities.
  • An exceptional communicator who builds strong, professional relationships with staff, governors, families and external partners, inspiring confidence and collaboration.
  • A resilient, emotionally intelligent leader who models integrity, motivates others, and brings energy, creativity and ambition to the role of Headteacher.

You will be part of both a trust and school that values collaboration, invests in its people and is committed to delivering excellence for every child. In return we offer:

  • A dedicated, talented staff who are committed to the ongoing development of the school.
  • Students who love their school and want to succeed academically and personally.
  • Induction and ongoing support from the Trusts Executive Leadership Team.
  • A dedicated and knowledgeable School Board supported by a strong Board of Trustees who will support and challenge you in equal measure.
  • A commitment to your own professional development and work life balance, whilst having the highest expectations of you as a leader.
  • A cycle to work scheme, Employers Assistance Programme and Teacher’s Pension Scheme.

We hope that what you have read motivates you to find out more about our School and ultimately, apply for this role.  Opportunities for conversations with Nicola Raggett, Headteacher and WMAT CEO are available through 2 open sessions; details on how to arrange these are included in the applicant pack. Applications must be made online and on the Trust’s application form; we do not accept CV applications. Your application’s supporting statement should, of course, address key aspects of the person specification and should be no longer than 1200 words.  An additional covering letter is not required.

Completed applications should be submitted by 8am on Tuesday 24th February 2026 at 8.00 am. The initial selection day will take place on Monday 9th March, following which applicants will be shortlisted to attend day 2 on Tuesday 10th March. Contact details for the post are included in the applicant pack.

Commitment to Safeguarding and Safer Recruitment Practices: We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds. WMAT is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Online searches will be conducted as part of the pre-employment checks.  This role is not exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020. All shortlisted candidates will be subject to online checks, they will also be asked to complete a criminal records self-disclosure form and successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks at enhanced level, along with other relevant employment checks.
