ECT's welcome to apply

Start date: September 2026

Place of work:    Comberton Village College, Comberton

Are you passionate about teaching Drama in a school that values creativity, ambition and exceptional standards? This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving, collaborative and highly skilled department where practical, academic and theatrical excellence are placed at the heart of teaching and learning.

Why teach Drama at Comberton Village College?

– A rich, practical and ambitious curriculum: Drama at Comberton is a dynamic, highly creative subject that develops pupils as imaginative performers, thoughtful directors and reflective theatre-makers. Across Key Stages 3–5, pupils explore, create and analyse theatre through sustained practical work, scripted performance, devising, and the study of influential styles, genres and practitioners.

– A subject built on performance and classroom practice: The majority of lessons are taught through practical workshops, placing performance, collaboration and experimentation at the centre of learning. Pupils develop confidence, creativity, leadership, empathy and resilience through sustained ensemble work, rehearsal processes and live performance opportunities.

– Outstanding outcomes and high expectations: Drama is a flourishing subject at Comberton, with pupils achieving exceptionally well at GCSE and A Level. High standards of performance and analysis are expected and supported, enabling students to develop as articulate, confident and reflective theatre practitioners and audience members.

– A vibrant and ambitious extra-curricular programme: Drama at Comberton extends far beyond the classroom. The department runs a comprehensive performance programme for both lower and upper school, mounting major productions every year. Recent shows include Shrek the Musical, Les Misérables, Into the Woods and Oliver!, offering pupils sustained opportunities to perform, direct, design and work as part of a professional rehearsal process.

– A strong post-16 pathway: Drama & Theatre Studies at Comberton Sixth Form is taught through highly engaging, experiential lessons that consider theatre from the perspectives of the actor, director and designer. Students develop critical appreciation of live theatre alongside their own creative practice, with many progressing to university courses, drama schools and careers across the creative industries.

What we offer:

A school culture that prioritises staff wellbeing and professional growth

Engaged, respectful and highly motivated pupils who embody our ethos of Caring, Confident and Capable

Excellent facilities, including our purpose-built Performance Hall with tiered seating, strong departmental support and a genuine commitment to work–life balance

‘Pupils here are not taught just to pass exams. They acquire the skills and knowledge they need to be first-rate scientists, historians, and artists, among others.’ (Ofsted, November 2024).

We are a highly successful, community mixed comprehensive school with Teaching School status in a pleasant rural setting only 5 miles from the centre of Cambridge. We currently have around 2000 11–18 pupils on roll, including a thriving sixth form centre opened in September 2011.

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding teacher of Drama who is fully committed to providing pupils with an exceptional experience of the subject across the full age and ability range. This role may offer the opportunity to teach on our popular and successful A Level Drama & Theatre Studies course and would suit either an ECT or an experienced practitioner. It is essential that the successful candidate is a strong team player, and committed to our thriving extra-curricular programme.

Our pupils are well motivated, staff morale is excellent, and examination results at KS4 and KS5 are consistently strong across our comprehensive intake. The school has been rated Outstanding by Ofsted over many years, with our most recent inspection in November 2024 achieving Outstanding in all categories.

If you are enthusiastic, inspiring and committed to high-quality Drama teaching and performance, we would love to hear from you.
