I am delighted that you are interested in working at
Comberton Village College, an incredible school which I feel extremely
privileged to lead. The school was established in 1960 and opened by Henry
Morris himself, the visionary educationalist who pioneered the village college
movement as a new approach to education. Since then, CVC has earned a superb
reputation, rightly been awarded numerous accolades, and was judged to be
‘Outstanding’ in all areas again, including Comberton Sixth Form, in its most
recent Ofsted inspection (November 2024). A true comprehensive school, at
Comberton, we believe that every child deserves a fantastic education, and are
relentless in our pursuit of this mission.
For candidates looking to work with us, we can offer:
· Generous Non-Contact Time:
Enjoy additional non-contact time beyond statutory PPA, including fortnightly
timetabled subject CPD sessions to support your ongoing professional
development.
· A commitment to professional development: at
all levels we are committed to the development of our staff; this includes
excellent connections to CTSN for internal and external opportunities
· Engaged and Respectful Students:
Teach delightful pupils who embody our ethos of Caring, Confident and
Capable, in an environment where disruption to learning is extremely rare.
· Positive Staff Culture and Wellbeing: Be
part of a community-focused school that values staff wellbeing, offering fresh
tea and coffee daily, regular staff events, and excellent on-site catering.
· Excellent Facilities and Perks:
Benefit from free on-site parking with EV chargers, discounted membership at
our Sports Centre, and access to a wide range of adult learning opportunities.
Our overriding aim is for pupils to become ‘caring, confident and capable’. Our pupils conduct themselves incredibly well and are fantastic ambassadors for CVC; they contribute to the calm, purposeful environment that is characteristic of the school. Our pupils are nurtured and supported in a range of ways, from on-site counselling and our highly experienced school nurse, with approaches tailored to meet their needs, and a proactive approach to positive mental health. We expect pupils to play an active role in the leadership of the school, with many opportunities to be involved in Comberton life.
Pupils at CVC are very fortunate to benefit from teachers
with exceptional subject knowledge and expertise, who continue to refine and
design curricula to ensure that each child is set up for future success. We are
proud to offer a broad and diverse curriculum and range of qualifications that
suit our varied learners; at GCSE and A Level, the school consistently delivers
very strong outcomes for pupils of all abilities and needs across an
extraordinary range of subjects. However, as Ofsted rightly noted, ‘pupils here
are not taught just to pass exams. They acquire the skills and knowledge they
need to be first-rate scientists, historians, and artists, among others’.
Professional development for staff is a key priority for the
school, to ensure that pupils receive the highest standard of teaching and that
the school continues to innovate and improve. Staff continue to benefit from
links to CTSN for professional development, where Comberton has been a lead
partner since its inception. The school also has a long history of supporting
trainee teachers and being at the forefront of ITT.
Academic achievement is far from Comberton’s only focus; we
believe wholeheartedly in ensuring that all pupils, regardless of their
background or need, access an exceptional range of experiences. Whether pupils
are passionate about Sport, Performing or Visual Arts, Music, Languages or
STEM, there is a huge range of different clubs for them to be involved in. The
curriculum is regularly enriched through a range of local field trips, with
over a hundred opportunities each year, and the school’s thriving Duke of
Edinburgh Award programmes have the largest uptake in the region across all
three tiers. Further afield, we have partner schools in France, Spain, Peru,
South Africa, Japan, Egypt, and Bangladesh, with many overseas trips run each
year.
I hope that this gives you a flavour of why working at
Comberton Village College is a great experience; visits are warmly encouraged
for any prospective candidates or those looking to find out more about our
fantastic school.
