Place of work:

Are you passionate about teaching Religious, Philosophical and Ethical education in a school that values diversity, collaboration, and professional growth? This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving department and shape a curriculum that inspires curiosity and critical thinking across Key Stages 3-5. For the right candidate we can offer a TLR across one or more Key Stages, to support with the leadership of our excellent team.

Why lead the RPE team at Comberton Village College?

  • A diverse and inclusive Curriculum: Our RPE curriculum is designed to engage students with a wide range of world views, ethical debates, and philosophical ideas. We aim to develop thoughtful, informed, and respectful learners who can navigate complex issues in a global society.
  • A supportive and collaborative environment: You’ll be joining a friendly, experienced team that works closely together to share ideas and resources. The department includes other experienced postholders who will provide guidance and support.
  • Ideal for new middle leaders: This position is perfectly suited to someone looking for their first middle leadership role in a supportive and forward-thinking school. We offer extensive development opportunities, mentoring, and access to leadership training. More experienced candidates are also warmly welcomed.
  • Professional Development and Growth: As part of our Teaching School and Trust, you’ll benefit from exceptional CPD opportunities, collaborative networks, and the chance to contribute to innovative projects that shape the future of education.

What we offer:

  • A school culture that prioritises staff wellbeing and professional growth.
  • Engaged and respectful students who embody our ethos of Caring, Confident and Capable.
  • Excellent facilities, generous non-contact time, and a commitment to work-life balance.

‘Pupils here are not taught just to pass exams. They acquire the skills and knowledge they need to be first-rate scientists, historians, and artists, among others.’ (Ofsted, November 2024).

We are a highly successful, community mixed comprehensive school with Teaching School status in a pleasant rural setting only 5 miles from the centre of Cambridge. We currently have around 2000 11-18 pupils on roll including in our sixth form centre that opened in September 2011. We are seeking to appoint an outstanding leader and teacher of Religious Studies, Philosophy and Ethics to take the department through its next stage of development.

The subject is highly successful and popular at both KS4 and KS5, and colleagues in the department offer a range of trips and enrichment opportunities, including visits to local places of worship and an international trip to Rome. We are also committed to supporting teacher training, through our strong links to CTSN and the Faculty of Education, and provide support for trainees every year. For the right candidate, there could also be the opportunity to teach Sociology or Politics at A Level, but this is not a requirement or expectation.

Our pupils are well motivated, staff morale is excellent and examination results at KS4 and KS5 are very strong across our comprehensive intake. The school has consistently been rated by Ofsted as outstanding over very many years – our most recent Ofsted (November 2024) achieved ‘outstanding’ in all categories. Considerable work has been done on the curriculum to ensure it is highly effective in preparing pupils for their future, and is exciting to teach.

If you are enthusiastic, inspiring, and ready to work in a department that makes a real difference, we would love to hear from you.
