About this Role

Two Teaching Assistants are required to provide in-class support, group intervention and one-to-one learning. This role will offer the successful candidates opportunities to support both the staff and children, challenge barriers to learning and ensure the achievement of each pupil is maximised. The successful candidates must be able to communicate effectively with children, colleagues and parents both verbally and in writing. Teaching Assistants are an essential part of our pupils’ education and so they are expected to have a good level of education themselves. Experience of working with children with EHCPs or on the SEN register would be an advantage, as would a relevant Level 2 or Level 3 qualification.

There are two positions available: One vacancy is 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, on a fixed term contract to cover maternity leave for up to one year. One vacancy is for 4 days per week (28 hrs) on a permanent basis. Working hours are likely to be 8.15 am – 3.45pm with an unpaid 30 minute lunch break, Term Time only plus INSET Days.  The successful candidates must be willing to attend and complete any necessary training.

Our shared vision is to enable learners in our ‘all-through’ school to achieve the highest levels of academic progress. All students have the opportunity to demonstrate excellence in all areas of school life, enjoy innovation centred teaching & learning, and exhibit the highest levels of respect in our school community. Oakgrove School was the first all-through school in Milton Keynes providing education to ages 3 – 18 and is also a member of Kingsbridge Educational Trust.

For more information please contact hr@oakgrove.school

Kingsbridge Educational Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check is required for this post prior to commencement.

Oakgrove School would like all candidates to answer specific questions for the personal statement section. For reference, here is a preview of the questions/headings:

  1. Describe your experience working with children or young people, including any support for those with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
  2. Give an example of how you have supported a child or small group to make progress in their learning. What strategies did you use and what was the outcome?
  3. How do you adapt your approach, activities, or resources to meet the needs of pupils with different abilities and learning styles?
  4. What is your understanding of safeguarding and child protection in a school setting, and what would you do if you had a concern about a pupil?
  5. How do you build positive relationships with pupils, particularly those who may be disengaged or display challenging behaviour, and why do you want to work in this role?
