About this Role

Oakgrove School is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Advisor to join our support team in September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to support our secondary students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and help them access learning, achieve their potential, and thrive in a supportive school environment.

Working under the guidance of teaching staff, you will provide tailored support to individuals and small groups, both in and out of the classroom, including occasional online sessions and exam support.

Key Responsibilities

    • Support students with SEN in accessing the curriculum
    • Work with individuals and small groups on targeted learning programmes
    • Provide feedback on student progress and achievement
    • Assist with exam support in line with regulations
    • Support students in lessons, at break/lunch times, and during extracurricular activities
    • Prepare and maintain learning resources and a positive learning environment
    • Liaise with teaching staff and relevant professionals
    • Complete administrative and clerical tasks
    • Attend meetings, training, and professional development activities

    What We’re Looking For

    Essential:

      • GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths
      • Experience of working with young people, ideally with SEN
      • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
      • A patient, supportive, and flexible approach
      • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
      • Commitment to inclusion, equality, and safeguarding

      Desirable:

        • Teaching Assistant qualification or SEN training
        • Experience in a school environment (particularly secondary)
        • Knowledge of specific needs (e.g. autism, ADHD, dyslexia)
        • Experience supporting exams or online learning

Kingsbridge Educational Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check is required for this post prior to commencement.

Oakgrove School would like all candidates to answer specific questions for the personal statement section. For reference, here is a preview of the questions/headings:

        1. Describe your experience supporting children or young people, particularly those with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
        2. Give an example of how you have helped a student (or small group) make progress in their learning. What was the outcome?
        3. How do you adapt your approach or learning resources to meet the needs of students with different abilities?
        4. Explain your understanding of safeguarding and child protection in a school setting. What would you do if you had a concern about a student?
        5. Describe how you build positive relationships with students, particularly those who may be disengaged or display challenging behaviour.
        6. Why do you want to work in this role supporting students with SEN, and what skills would you bring?
