About this Role

The Governors at Reading School are seeking to appoint an experienced, inspiring and passionate member of staff to join our PE team from September 2024. We offer an exciting opportunity in an exceptional team and a school that is passionate about PE as a subject.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching core PE lessons across a variety of activities, including gymnastics and athletics. In addition, you will play a crucial role in supporting our extensive extra-curricular programme, which includes sports such as rugby, football, cricket, basketball, hockey and lacrosse.

PE and sport at Reading School are crucial in character development and in supporting academic excellence. Cricket is a cornerstone of our school’s sporting tradition, and we are dedicated to continuing our legacy while striving to enhance participation and performance. It is hugely popular and our teams are successful and committed.

We are looking for an experienced cricket coach with a passion for nurturing talent who will add to our team and provide leadership for this aspect of the sport life.

As Head of Cricket, you will have the unique opportunity to shape and grow our cricket programme, fostering a love for the sport among students and enhancing our competitive performance. You will also be instrumental in building relationships with other schools and community teams, further integrating cricket into the life of our school and the wider community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality PE lessons across a range of activities.
  • Lead and develop the cricket programme, enhancing both participation and performance levels.
  • Support and enhance our extra-curricular sports programmes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with other schools and community cricket teams.
  • Teach and support students in GCSE and A-level PE.
  • Assess, mentor and provide feedback to pupils.
  • Build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Collaborate effectively as a team player within the PE department.


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in teaching PE and coaching cricket.
  • Strong knowledge of GCSE and A-level PE curriculum.
  • Ability to assess and mentor pupils effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with students, colleagues, and the wider community.
  • A clean driving license is desirable.

This role is starting from September 2024, but consideration will be given to candidates available from January 2025 and April 2025. An allowance may be considered for an experienced/suitable candidate. On-site accommodation may also be available.
